so a while back zapster shared a sweet trick to bend a tungsten.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...t=copper+blockthus far i have been unable to find a block of copper sitting around anywhere so i decided to make one, i bought a 2 inch coupler and hammered it flat. then i started stripping some old battery cables that i have laying around. i have been laying the wire in top of the coupler and melting it in and have about 1/2 of an inch of material now that is 3 inches square give or take, and i am just astounded how much juice copper sucks up. it doesn't like to melt a puddle until the whole mass starts to turn orange.fun stuffturkDynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:I didn't realize other people bent their tungsten too. I never bothered with a copper block. I just use a scrap piece of steel to strike arc on. Then while the tungsten is still red I tap it on the table.
Reply:i do it all the time just turn to dc+ and floor your pedal. but make sure you turn the machine back to AC before alum. welding. also if you have a "dynasty" line machine it wont go to DC+ unless you put your ground wire and your electrode wire in the opposite spots on the machine
Reply:If you melt a large puddle of aluminum, you can feed a piece of copper into the puddle and it will melt as fast as you feed it in. Untill I think it reaches the eutectic of the two. I may be wrong about that part.  Mac
