Heres the osprey i started last week. I have used some brushed stainless for the tail feathers and head as im  going to rust the rest and hopefully it should look like osprey colours. We have an osprey viewing room in town so im hoping to hang it there. Added a pic of one of the talons under construction Attached Images

Reply:Absoluteley beautiful bud! Industrial strength peroxide in a spray bottle will rust it right up for ya. You may know that but figd i'd throw it out there. the store bought stuff is 3%, if you can get it from a hair salon for women they have the 40%. Bring a picture to show them why you need it tho. They're skepticle about selling to the public, they think your gonna make a bomb or something. Anyway GREAT work man! Cheers againI hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:Also very good for rust.....ehem......"patina"..... is Muriatic Acid. MUST wear full protective gear and an appropriate respirator. Really strong stuff!!! Leave is a couple hours and hose it down. Neutralize with a bucket of water and baking soda or vinegar. It's been my go-to for "patina" on my sculptures for years. I'm interested in the hair salon peroxide though. Might be less hazardous than the Muriatic. Depends on price too. Thanks for mentioning that Mike!!Great bird. Lotta work there. I like the idea of using the stainless for contrast. Keep the pic's coming!200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

Reply:Friggin beautiful!  How long has it taken you to get it to this point?A good way to rust stuff is to apply a salt and vinegar solution to it with a spray bottle.  It'll brown overnight.
Reply:beautiful work and you are a wonderful sculptor - I can't imagine the hours you've put in.What did you use to form the body and wings - what's under the feathers?... just curious and did you cut the feathers using a pattern or free hand them?

Reply:Originally Posted by bert the welderI am not speaking from much experience with chroming, but I doubt that could be done because of the feathers and tight gaps. That or rigging it up to do so would be cost prohibitive. I, personally think chrome  would ruin it. There's a guy on the web that has done some massive eagles and dragons from mirror polished stainless. While technically incredible, the polishing kills them. English are good folk as are you Scot's. Would love to get to Scotland so day and just wonder.
Reply:Nice work!  When I saw the title I thought osprey aircraft.
Reply:Guess it's like any people, good and bad. I try to keep this in mind with those to our south........200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

Where I live is a destination for tourists and having worked in restaurants and as a bouncer in my younger days, you get a bit course from dealing with the real dumb, ill-mannered, loud-mouth variety of Americans. Especially the drunk, military variety that think they're something special. So as I've said before and will repeat; I mean no offense to Americans in general, just the ones that should stay home.        Originally Posted by grumpycricketC'mon Bert! Reply:Football fans can be pretty die-hard nationalists. We get the same here on TV. Most channels are American. Gotta love HBO! CBC ( Canadian Broadcasting Corp.) used to be good for news but they've pussied-out like most other North American media agencies. They're gutless because they don't want to offend the subjects or they might not get another interview. The English seem to hold on to things a long time. They haven't gotten past za Germans yet....... Originally Posted by shirazmanoops have i opened a can of worms? lol.
