Hi im looking to make a turbo manifold and I know 321ss is the better material for this app but I can only find it in 16gauge. And I kinda like the idea of the 304ss schedule 10 because it can support the turbo and I would like to try working with schedule 10 since ive only done work with 16gauge tube so far.. looking for someone with experience for my best option hereThanks

Reply:Ya my first welding project years ago was a turbo kit including headers on an ls3 that made over 1000rwhp and that was crappy welds lol, no backpurge and 16gauge 304ss and never cracked once, wasnt over a few thousand miles on it but it was sure as hell beat to piss lol..I mean I kinda like the idea of the 16gauge 321ss as well due to weight savings and in this racing game alot of money is spent to reduce weight where possible..So I guess I know both options will work, just looking for a reason to pick one
Reply:Hey there. Another turbo guy!I like SS for the heat rejecting properties, but I like mild steel "steam pipe" for speed, ease of working, and locally avail pre-made weld-els. And there is no need to worry about cracking/strength.It's an option anyway. Not as pretty though!!Chay
Reply:I'm having a problem getting the weld els in SS anyone want to share some sources?

Reply:I had to weld a manifold (stainless header) back together for a guy, crappy stainless welds cracked, he lost his wastegate tube on the highway and almost lost the turbo but the silicone boots held on.

Reply:Was thinking it would be nice to make it out of schedule 10 or 40 but thinking 321 16 gauge with a brace would be more high end
