Just finished this job this afternoon, so I figured I would share a few pics. It could be called a subsoiler, trencher, or a ripper, all depends on what you need it for. Took about five hours to make and was flame cut by hand, and all stick welded. The guy I built it for is gonna use it on his backhoe for trenching underground electrical lines. Weighs over a 100lbs easy, and is half the size of me, but that ain't saying much for me. I'm a short $hit!. Attached ImagesI hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys

Reply:Nice looking. How does it attach to the backhoe?

Reply:Do you know if he intends to use it often or just occasionally for himself? If the former, it might be worthwhile to hardface the edges (edge faces?) of the front trapezoidal plate.

Reply:When i have done Rippers like this we used a shank from a dozer and welded it to a plate that was slotted for it and went on the excavator quick change setupAlso could change the tooth using standard teethbecause i can already see a forthcoming problem with that tooth unless he is using it is soft dirt with some stones But if he try's to use that in hardpan or on rock it will just grind it right off Hard facing it might postpone the inevitable And this is NOT your problemYou did a great job on what you were asked to buildBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Add a metal cone that hooks behind the ripper with two or three links of chain. Then he can rip, and install conduit in one pass.I did this sort of thing to run power out to my gate for a gate opener, about 300ft. I dug an entry and exit hole with the front end loader. Glued up 300ft of 3" conduit. Drilled a hole in a sacrificial cap and bolted the cap behind the metal cone. Then glued the conduit run to the cap. Line it all up behind the entry hole, hook the cone to the ripper, and run it in low gear. Worked like a charm. Definitely beats the few hundred bucks to rent the trencher. I'll have to take some pictures of the cone.I'm considering building a sort of square moldboard plow for trenching. It would slice the sides and bottom of a trench, then have a moldboard that flips the soil plug out.Dynasty200DX w/coolmate1MM210MM VintageESAB miniarc161ltsLincoln AC225Victor O/A, Smith AW1ACutmaster 81IR 2475N7.5FPRage3Jancy USA1019" SBAEAD-200LE

Reply:Finally dug around on the computer and found pictures. The eyebolt has a threaded end that goes all the way thought the cap. The cap just butted up against the back of the metal pipe. I put a fender washer, a nut, and a jamb nut behind the cap. Glue the pipe on and start plowing! Cut the cap off and remove it when you're done. The pipe piece is ugly. I was in a hurry to get it built so I could use it. Work as well as a pretty one.
