Decent $150 helmet?

I've been stick welding here on our farm with an old $49.95 Harbor Freight A-D helmet, everything from fence posts to tractor repairs, hay racks, you name it.  It's thin as paper, scratched up with no replacement lenses, knobs falling off, etc.  I'd like to upgrade a bit, but just doing stuff out here doesn't justify an expensive pro helmet.  Can anybody suggest a good A-D helmet in the $125-$175 range?  Can you get tougher lenses? Reply:When I bought my 181i it came with a mailin for a free Tweco helmet. I keep it as a spare so I don't useit a lot , but it is a pretty nice helmet. Reply:That tweco helmet isn't anything special at all.The best $150 hood you will find is the HTP CSV, but good luck as they are hard to get. The next best one is the optrel p550 or e640. I will take either of those over my miller. For a few bucks more the miller performance that I have is nice but I don't think it's worth the money. Reply:I wear a welding hood all day long from power houses welding heavy wall to pharmaceutical construction and sch 10 stainless. My favorite brand is Fibre Metal. Hands down.i would suggest one with a flip up lens. I have been using a Futura with a glass lens or an Arc one singles auto darkening lens for 2 1/2 years now. I don't have to search for a face shield that is probably scratched up anyway and I'm more likely to use eye protection because it's right there.  Simple head gear attachment that has never broken is another plus. So is cheap cover lens. 2 1/4" x 4 1/4" window has been plenty big for me. Just my opinion. Whole set up can be had for under $100. It's light too.One Step Ahead Of The Home Owners Association.

Reply:I've been using the Hobart XVS A/D helmet for the past two years.  Never had a problem.  Works for me doing light welding, no 8-hr. days.  Would buy another if needed.  I think Hobart has changed the model name but the model is a 770424.  TSC has them on for about $110 now.http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/stor...g-helmet-black
Reply:I picked up a Miller Digital Performance Fireball from Cyberweld for $165 shipped.  I had a problem with the hood staying up but after using it a few times the headgear seems to be holding the hood up now and it's pretty comfortable.  I'm very happy with the quality vs price.  My only other helmet was a Harbor Freight so it's not a good comparison.
