I am building a table for my shop to go along with my main table. I wanted it to be moveable and capable of being positioned wherever needed. To keep it level and at the same height as my main table regardless of where it is in the garage, i thought leg levelers would be in order. I decided to make some. I chose stainless steel because i was afraid of having to weld zinc coated bolts and washers due to the toxic gas that can be generated. I acquired some 5/8 inch x 3 x #11 thread bolts. I grabbed some large washers too. A large nut and a jam nut for each. I have some 10 ga stainless sheet in my bin. I started by welding two washers together on their edges autologously so they act like one thicker washer. I used a piece of copper for a heat sink to prevent warpage. Next i cut some 2x2 inch pieces of the 10 ga ss, welding the edges together using autologous technique again. Then i drilled a 3/4 inch hole in the middle of each 2x2 inch pipe cap. To this i welded a nice fat nut to recieve the bolt from the leveler leg. Then i welded the stainless pipe cap with its bolt to the table legs. I use a thick piece of copper as my heat sink, they work pretty well. The table legs are 2 inch square 3/16 wall thickness. I used my diversion 165 for all of it, filler used was er 312 since im joining ss and mild steel. I will add additional pic of the completed table when it's done Attached ImagesMiller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Reply:I've used large carriage bolts on some packing table legs. The square portion under the head provides a surface for a wrench to turn it and the rounded head sits well on uneven concrete floors.

Reply:You mentioned your concern about the zinc fumes made you choose stainless...what about the hexavalent chrome exposure? 3M makes a kickass respirator (P100) for under $20...
Reply:Good job Eliot, looks very clean and store bought!. I'm too lazy to make 'em and the ones we buy with a swivel are about 25 bucks a pop, so you saved a nice chunk of dough. Thanks for sharing.
