Im starting on a turbo fabrication, and want to find out some tips on this subject because in the past when I have cut and welded mandrel bends the cuts sometimes comes out oval, and some times they don't match up perfectly together when I go to weld the two pieces together. How do I keep the cuts square and perfectly round?Im going to be using a compound miter saw with a metal blade this time, instead of just a cut off wheel which should help. And I just bought a bench grinder which should help to clean my cuts up better.

Reply:If you are on a budget for tools just pick up a cheap 14" abrasive cut off saw, 4.5" angle grinder and a hand file to deburr. If you want you can even square up your cuts using the abrasive wheel by pressing your cut piece against the side of the spinning wheel. No need for the metal blade on a miter saw designed for cutting 2x4's or a bench grinder. 14" abrasive replacements are about 5 bucks too. You should be able to build your entire exhaust/charge pipe with a 14" abrasive, 4.5" grinder and hand file.
Reply:Just checked some of those out online and that looks perfect! Thanks for the tip.
Reply:This is the kind of stuff i do all day.A vertical bandsaw for cutting, and most importantly a 6x48 belt sander is indispensable for fitting and shaping and flattening the face of cuts.... and a barrell sander on a die grinder for deburring. and light porting afterwards.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Check out coneeng.comThey sell u-bend cutting fixtures that ensure you cut straight across the pipe... They're pretty cool. If it's still not quite perfectly round, you can gently squish it back into shape in a vise. I'm not associated with them in any way, but I've bought from them before & Rich is a good guy to deal with.Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire.
