Reply:Gouge full pen plate girders 5/8 carbons DC 800 or 1000. 900 amp full auto Arcair . Plenty of smoke n slag. We have been using more carbons than ever on the WTC. Hub. 1/2 ,1/4. &5/8 cases a week all hand full pens and repair.

Reply:Here are a couple photos. I would rather gouge than weld nine times out of ten. People tend to leave you alone when you're blowing a twenty foot shower of molten metal. A small crack. A little smoke on the miller. This is what respirators are for. Sometimes you can't see what you need to see and be able to steer clear of the plume. So why do some of you guys not enjoy this junk?

Reply:I'd rather destroy metal, than make metal !Air arc is a reminder why you need to lay down a weld right the first time.      I really dont mind it but i really try not to have to do it on the regVantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.
Reply:I'd rather drag a gouging hand piece up a dragline than have to lug a wire feeder up. Mind you thats the TA's job anyway. I like chasing cracks. You are in your own world when gouging. With all the safety stuff on mine sites now I don't even have to worry about fires. I have my TA plus one or two fire spotters to keep an eye on that. I normally use an Air Vantage or if I'm lucky I get to grab a Big Blue Airpak. My best effort was gouging the internal skin out of a Dragline bucket off an 8750 Marion in under 12 hours. That nigh I was pushing 13mm rods powered by two 800 Amp lincolns run in series. That was a good night.
