M116A3 One Ton Military Trailer $294

This is a M116A3 I found on http://www.govliquidation.com for $294. I want to make a tool trailer.Want a critique. I do not have a lot of money in this trailer so I could go in a different direction. I was thinking a welder and an air compressor. The existing upright steel could become part of a latter rack. Back could have a 3/8 by 83inches by 24 welding on to receiver steel for various vises and other tools. What are the possibilities? Attached Images
Reply:Looks good and generaly overbuilt. With the hitch assy, do you have a M1008/9 to tow it with or plan on convert it to a 'normal' hitch? Also, the lights are 24V...Classic 300D LN-25Plain Jane O/A

Reply:Sometime this week I will be able to pick the M116A3 from Crane Naval here in Indiana. I am not sure of any dimensions. I would like to have bought another one but I got this one on a bid at the last moment of bid closure, the last 15 seconds. Somebody bought all of them and fought me to the very end. The M116A3 will carry 1 ton as I have 1 ton of tools  in the back of my F350.
Reply:Sounds like a vendor got all of them, GL is notorious for that. Was the winning bidder # all the same?The M116A3 is almost perfect for what you want, you could always try for a M101, would have to modify the bed though.Classic 300D LN-25Plain Jane O/A

Reply:This is turning out to be almost more trouble than it is worth. Sunday, I filled out an end use certificate, color copy of my drivers license, promise not to export letter and another letter with my full name, ssn, date of birth and place of birth. I didn't fill all the boxes in properly. I wrote n/a instead of not applicable. That's a no no. Had to spell my middle name. All in all, three sets of corrections. All for $294 which they have all ready taken from my account. Just like old times, when the morning report had to be error free. I will try and check if the wining bedder was the same for all trailers. Another thing, I am glad the trailer is at Crane, Indiana and I live in Indianapolis, Indiana. What I really wanted was a M416 to pull behind my jeep. Was out bid on that one as well. At the moment on gov liquidation is a M416 in Sparta, WI, going for $335 with the top 6 inches cut off. Way to far to drive. My last bid for this trailer was in the last 10 or 15 seconds before closing at 5pm that day.
Reply:I have a couple M101a2s, one of the best trailers you will EVER spend money on. If you decide to get rid of those boxes on the trailer, I'd love to buy them. Might even trade for a set of Military LED tail lights that are multi-volt. They work with 10-30v. Might even have a spare tire/rim for it.
