here is a pic of a quick workbench i tossed together one afternoon. (about a month ago) its 4ft by4ft the top is 1/4 inch and so is the shelf. its not a heavy duty fab table. but it gets the job done on smaller stuff. (being stuffed in a 2 car gagare and having half of it full of CNC plasma tabe its all i could have room for. I picked up a strong hand 90degree clamp, and tossed the tubing in it and welded it up, I figured it's a wOrk bench, if it's nit perfectly square the top will hide it, and to my amazement it came out dead on. I did that for the square base the top is sitting on then proceeded to do the same to add the legs. And when measured out it was dead on square also. I have a feeling it saved me a bunch of time, vs tacking and checking square, adjusting rechecking ect.
