I told a guy I was getting an inverter welder and he said I needed to make sure I grounded the welder or it would backfeed through my house and fry all my electronics.  He said he fried his microwave, dishwasher, dryer, and I think something else.  He said it would say how to ground it in the instruction manual, but I didn't see anything.  I saw him again and told him this and he said maybe the new ones don't need grounded.  He said his had a ground bolt on the back for hooking a ground to.  So can I plug this thing in or not?  Its a brand new arcmaster 185.

Reply:i have a thermal arc prowave 185 and havent had any problems.... it does interfere with my stereo and tv in the garage, but not in the house, and it doesnt burn the stereo or tv up as they still work...  my garage has its own breaker box also though.. i was thinking i would probably unplug the vfd hooked to my mill just to be safe, its on a different circuit, but i was told that vfd's can be sensitive to the high frequency, not certain though.. i dont recall seeing anything in the manual about grounding the machine..tackleexperts.comwww.necessityjigs.comhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/mach...dingequipment/

Reply:I don't think he ment the power was back feeding.  I think he ment the hf was somehow bombarding  his house from the shop through the elctrical lines.  He said the things in his house went one at a time over a period of time, but after the third thing he knew he had some sort of problem.  I don't know if he figured it out or an electrician, but he said he started grounding it and hasn't had anymore problems.  Thanks for the responses.  I guess I will give it a go.
Reply:Talked to another guy that brought his syncrowave to the tire shop/mechanic shop he works at.  He said the only way he could tig was on top of a short aluminum ladder that had a plastic top.  He said if he put what he was welding on the concrete or one of the hoists it would make the lights flicker.  He said he was letting a guy he knows try it and the guy was screwing around with the torch way back from the aluminum and hitting the pedal.  He said it made everything in the shop go wacky and it ended up ruining the gas pumps(I assume the electronics for the pumps).
Reply:The HF on my Squarewave TIG 185 trips the GFI outlet in my garage. I doubt it's back feeding, just getting HF induced into the cords plugged into the GFI outlet.PapaLincoln Idealarc 250 (circa 1962)Lincoln Weldpak 155 w/Mig KitLincoln Squarewave TIG 175
