I know some of the new guys to welding must get tired of the guys on here with experience, telling tthem they shouldn't weld on trailers, hitches and other things that might get some one hurt. Some times it's not a hitch or trailer that would be dangerous, it's something simple and seems like no big deal. Well here's why we harangue you guys.My powdercoat guy called the other day and said he had a rack he needed fixing. No big deal, I fix stuff for him all the time, stuff that they break while handling and stuff that comes in broken. Thsi time it was a rack that they hung stuff on to put in the oven. It was built by one of his hired hands for a certain thing that they do for a company on a regular basis. The hired hand told the owner that he had a little wire feed machine and he was "pretty darn good" with it. Well the first time he used it, the rack broke and the part that weighed a couple hundred pounds fell and broke. On it's way down it hit an emplyee and hurt him bad enough to need medical help.I took the whole rack apart by slamming it on my welding table. It literally fell apart. Here's a couple pictures. There wasn't much holding it together. Attached Images
Reply:People hurt from anothers stupidity. On the plus side, it now looks like you have ALL of their welding business in the future

Reply:That rust will always verify the lack of fusion on a joint that is still holding. Just as in the first picture here, clearly the witness mark of rust along 80% or more of the weld could show anyone interested in inspecting the joint, that fusion was lacking. Reply:Can you post up what thickness the materials were? It obviously looks like no prep at all, but doubt that would have helped

Reply:The pix show welds with what appears to be fusion on one piece and almost none on the other. Perhaps his problem is not so much the wrong machine as being blind as a bat Definitely someone who shouldn't be welding, in any case.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:another fine example of someone who thinks because they have a little canadian tire mig machine their a professional "welder" If that person was severely injured or iam sure could have been killed if hit in the head... he would have been completely liable. Alot of guys dont think that when they strike an arc on a project that their is ALOT of responsibility that goes into that project.
Reply:Will the "weldor" suffer any consequences of this? Does he know about the injury?
Reply:Better fix it right before OSHA pays them a visit.  It's surprising how often they turn up after an industrial injury.

Reply:Thats not just a person that doesn't have enough pillick to do the job, he doesn't even know how to weld. We always learned to run a lap joint focusing the puddle on the bottom piece, and letting it run into and "up against" the top piece. Makes more sense than ever, now.[Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
