So I have only been welding for one year, but I tool 4 hours of welding everyday at my high school for that year. My teacher is a very slick welder who had worked for some very prestigious companies. SO when he came up to me and asked to build him this rig for his jeep I was ecstatic, but also nervous since it is going to go on his personal jeep. He had a little 10 gal air compressor someone turned into a grill and never came back and got it. So he told me to find a way to mount it on his jeep without taking up a lot of room.I started by taking some square tubing, cutting it and fitting it to the angles I figured that I would need. Then once I got them cut out tacked it up and looked at how it fit on the jeep. It was a perfect fit thank god and I TIG'ed up the tubing so it would look nice. The tubing was one square tube coming out of the receiver hitch with another square tube coming off at a slightly more than 45 degree angle.I mounted a cap on top to rest the grill on, but then discovered the grill would be touching the spare tired(which is bad because the heat when in use could warp the rubber). So i attached another plate on that brought it out about 4 inches away from the tire. Then I bent and welded a plate onto the bottom of the grill so that I could weld that plate onto the cap. Finally I MIG'ed the plate on the grill to the cap on the tube and viola! A redneck grill in your receiver hitch of your jeep/truck/SUV!!!I DO APOLIGIZE THAT THERE IS ONLY ONE PICTURE AND THAT IT IS NOT VERY GOOD BUT YOU GET THE GENERAL IDEA I HOPE. THANKS FOR LOOKING Attached Images
Reply:I apoligize again I just noticed there is a projects section that I should have put this in instead of Off Topic. Dont hate me too much
Reply:That's not a bad idea. Not everyone wants the trailer-sized smoker/grill to head out for a day in the field. How much does it weigh?
Reply:It weights about 40 lbs. Its not bad to carry, besides being shaped awkwardly, but it will either be in the hitch or in storage. He doesnt plan on using it for anything besides camping and offroading. And it doesnt bother the jeep or the rear end any with the extra weight. He made the whole rear end himself including the mount for the spare, two gas tank holders, a jack holder, tow hooks and a winch. And the shocks on the back are strong enough the back end doesnt dip at all
Reply:You could have made it so it mounts hanging from the rollbar between the front seats so he can keep an eye on the cooking progress while wheelin'. And make it reversible so someone riding in the back could take care of cooking duties while on the trail if needed Can you get some closer up pics of this set up?
Reply:Ill try to get more pics Bistineau.I made it on Friday which was my last day at high school and he had me make that in one day as my final, that's where theres no pics I was too busy for pics. He was real happy with It though, I got an A. He specifically wanted it on the outside so it didn't take up room in the cab though so the roll bars weren't an option."If you ain't making mistakes, it means you aren't learning anything."

Reply:Alright Ill try to go by the school here soon because the rest of the school is still in. But Im a senior and we get out 2 weeks early. Like I said sorry there arent more pictures I was real busy though."If you ain't making mistakes, it means you aren't learning anything."
Reply:For anyone still interested I had a younger friend who still has another week of school take a picture of the grill and send it to me. He didnt do the best job on the pic but here it is.The box behind the grill is meant for spatulas, knives, etc. This is the grill out of the hitch and in the paint process. Reply:I like it. The utensils box is another good idea. More photos
