I decided to make a low rider type cart for towing behind the lawn tractor. I wanted it to be low so i can move my wet saw out to the shed during the winter. The casters on it are not good over grass. I picked up some of those 10 inch pneumatic tires at hf for about 5 bucks each. I used 1 1/2 inch angle for the frame. 2 feet by 5 feet. I used expanded steel for the deck. The axel is 5/8 mild steel rod. The whole thing goes together with cotter pins and big ace washers. The rear wheels are fixed. THe axel is under the deck and wheels outside the deck so it can be low to the ground. To make the front steerable i got a big ace caster and cut off the wheel. Using the ball bearing swivel for an axis. I drilled holes in it and put the front axel through it. I mounted this to a piece of 3/16 steel and welded it to the front. To keep the lateral weight supported in front i put some steel supports for the axel to ride on as it steers. (might need to see the pictures to get that) i put bumpers to keep the front wheels from hitting the frame. It doesnt have the tightest turing radius but it should do the job. I thought the grand kids would like a ride so i put fenders over the rear wheels and stake pockets for removeable wooden sides when  they are riding. I think it's pretty safe for little ones, let me know if im missing anything safety wise. Forest green of course, and stained poplar for the sides. Reply:one other thing, i accidently got some 1/2 x 1 inch flat in my last order so i used my compact bender to bend a yolk for the front axel. THat was hard. But it worked, so i drilled holes and threaded it on and fixed it with more washers and cotter pins, then welded a tongue to attach it to the lawn tractor. A little over kill but it was sitting there looking at me saying " what are you going to do with me?"Miller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Reply:Cool! takes me a whole day to mow my lawn, i'd have a cooler in that baby  you may wanna tack those washers on tho, if there's a a little play, those cotter pins may shear off.I hate being bi-polar it's awsomeMy Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys
Reply:Very cool!!  Pretty, too!I picked up a set of four pneumatic tires like that some months ago with the intent of building a wagon like that.   Just haven't gotten a round toit yet.  Next metal project, I think.-MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
Reply:I thought earlier this year you said you wanted one with a dump bed. I was wondering just the other day about this project you had asked about earlier. What you have will be pretty handy though. But it's going to give you fits trying to back it, especially with that ZTR mower. You may have to go back later and put two swivel caster wheels on front to make steering forward and backward easier. You will just have to make the mounts come out and up some to attach the swivels to keep the lower stance. there have been some done like that on some of the welding cart projects on here.
Reply:I dont remember a post about a dump trailer I don't think, but the caster idea will work well! I knew I would get some good ideas. Reply:Interesting project. I'm still not sure I see the point of having it so low to the ground. If anything I'd want a cart to be taller for moving my wetsaw, not shorter, so I don't have to bend down so far to lift it or set it down. Usually The 1st thing I do is set up the stand or clear the shelf I store mine on and then it's one move from the height of the back of the truck to the stand or shelf with no bending down. Trying to move mine with the stand attached would be too awkward. Even with 2 people it's usually easier to move the saw  and temporarily set it on sawhorses and then move the stand..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:If I may ask, where did you get that swivel mechanism for your front axle to swivel on ? I've got an idea for a project I'd like to do but haven't been able to find anything like what you've got ...... Thanks !!!!!
Reply:that swivel mechanism looks like a heavy duty swivel caster with the wheel missing.
Reply:Nice job, I like the fenders
Reply:Thanks! I wanted it low to keep the payload as low as possible since the trek out to the shed is not flat. Plus my wet saw is taking up precious garage space, and it will be easier to wrestle it on the deck of my cart if it's low. Bonus is the dual functionality with the sides in it is a perfect playtime tractor ride for my little grand daughters.Miller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45!
