Hey all-Anyone use one of the rotary amp controls for their TA 185 that ck worldwide sells? I like the velcro addition to my existing torch but am afraid it will move around at the least opportune moment?Also- I wear a heavy glove on my right hand as I don't have a watercooled torch yet and the tig gloves don't cut it at the amperage/duration I have been doing lately- can the rotary control sustain this heat over time? Should I just upgrade to a water cooled torch with a hand control within it? Can you still use a remote pedal with one of these? Plan on building my own water cooler one of these days.. pretty sure I saw some plans on here for that...Need the hand control to weld some leaf spring perches to a rear end, building a roll cage, fixing some floors/trunk deck, tacking a custom turbo manifold on car and then finish weld on bench, and some custom through the floor subframe connectors where I think a pedal would be near impossible to use--I love the pedal for bench work though so don't know if I go watercooled if I want a hand only setup- hence why I like the velcro deal in theory...
Reply:Yes I use one, and yes it does move around a bit. I retighten the velco every once in a while. Otherwise it works really good.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li  ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:I use a finger control with both my sync 300 with wp20 and my maxstar 150 with wp17. The heat from the air cooled wp17 has not affected my control. It's mounted with velcro straps, which seems to work just fine. I have not used the ck worldwide finger control, both of mine are made by miller. You can always switch to use a pedal, even if the finger control is still mounted to the torch, by simply unplugging the one and plugging in the other at the welder. The heavy glove may be a problem. I'd recommend one of the thinner style kidskin, pigskin, or deerskin gloves with no insulation on the palm side. If you haven't used a finger control yet, I will warn you, it takes some practice and patience.Ian TannerKawasaki KX450 and many other fine tools
Reply:^^^ go with the thinner glove. I use the pedal almost all the time with my Maxstar but I keep the thumb wheel control velcroed to the torch for those times when I weld out of position and the pedal won't cut it. As simple as switching th connection at the machine. Just remember to keep the ends protected when loose.
Reply:I had a CK worldwide amptrol on my old linde UCC-305 which I've since sold, it was one that had a sliding control on it, hard to get used to.  I did use it sometimes when welding out of position and it was useful but I started on a pedal and thats what I'm more used to.My current L-tec has a rotary dial hand amptrol, easier to get used to than the sliding style and very useful out of position.  It has been restrained to the torch with some gorilla and electrical tape and that helps keep it from sliding, the velcro has long since gone missing.I can't speak as to working with air cooled torches as both machines had water-cooled torches on them when I got them.  Given how much nicer water-cooled torches are on your hands I highly recommend upgrading if you don't need the portability.  The hand-control on a torch is usually just for turning on the argon and not for adjusting amperage. You can run both a pedal and a hand control you just have to buy a fancy splitter or be willing to switch plugs when you prefer one over the other.
