I working on a friends set of heavy duty Craftsman torchs and found a few problems. I fix most of them except his line pressure from oxy reg to torch keeps building pressure if you dont bleed it off it will ped guage. Has anybody had this issue and is it a easy fix?
Reply:The regulator needs taken to a shop to be fixed. Diaphragm is bleeding pressure or something. Local welding supply can either fix it or tell you where to take it. Don't attempt to fix it yourself. Reply:If the pressure keeps creeping up your high pressure seat has failed on the reg. O2 regs really are not DIY repairs. Almost everything will burn in the pressence of high pressure O2. Simply the sudden increase in pressure inside the reg as you turn it on can be enough to ignite any contaminants that might have been introduced to the reg if you open it up and get a small piece of lint or some sort of oil ( even from your skin).it is possible to have the regs rebuilt. Several members have used member OAdoctor here (www.regulatortorchrepair.com ) to have theirs done. You can usually also have the local welding supply have it sent out. You may find however that it may be just as expensive to get it rebuilt as it is to buy a new one. Top quality regs are worth rebuilding, but the lower end regs frequently are not cost effective to rebuild..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
