another bucket and some line bore work....in progress

First pics are 3 inch beams for the floor structure . The bucket is getting completly re skinned . we removed all the floor and sides as well as lots of the structural components. Second is more of the same. the last one is fitting in the 1 1/2 floor plate. Attached Images
Reply:Next pictures are of the door to the bucket. it got a new lip put on. Its all 1 1/2 plate. And a bail that was modified to fit the bucket getting line bored for bushings. All of the weld are 100% on everything. Lots of wire is getting used.   enjoy the pics thanks for looking. Attached Images

Reply:all the plate is mild and will be lined with 1 1/4 ar 500. I will add more pics as things progress.No this is not a dragline bucket it goes to a P&H shovel at a copper mine about 50 miles from our shop.he sides were done in press brake but not ours we only have a little 200 ton one.

Reply:Well settings vary some from welder to welder. My personal ones are all on a vantage 500.The wire type is Lincoln ulttacore  L 85 a1 I set to about 28 to 31 volts and depending on position 245 to 320 ipm. It's 1/16 wire. Some of the welds are NR 233. Settings for it are about 24 to 28 volts and 210 to 300 ipm based on position. Hope it helps
Reply:I am confused by the line boring. The boring bar is only thru one eye, how did you set it up to be true thru both ears? We always use a long bar that passes thru all of the ears, was just wondering?

Reply:OK to answer the question about keeping the bores on both ears true.Instead of paying for a boring bar 25 feet long with threaded holes and indexing marks i use a 25 foot 2 inch solid piece of lathe turned bar as a line up tool. I the put an expanding center in each bore. The centers have 3 feet that expand. very much like a 3 jaw lathe chuck. they have a whole in them that has 3 inch of engagement with .002 clearance on my line up bar.  I then slide on the bearings and guild for the boring machine and weld in place. I then remove my line up bar and presto everything id true and aligned.Mick i would like to see some pics looking forward to seeing them.
Reply:Thank you for the answer Specops. wouldn't mind seeing a pic of the expanding centers if you get a chance. I do long set ups basiclly  the same way, use a piece PSQ shaft material and cone shaped pieces for alignment but don't really like the cones.  Very nice work.
Reply:leight, no problem with the description. I hope it make a little bit of heads or tails. I have a set of those damn cones but try to never have to use them. I will snap some pics tomorrow and get you a part number they will cut set up time in half and are a lot more precise than the cones. thanks for looking. Just my way of doing it might not be the best but it works with the tools I have.

Reply:All right a small update and some pics of my centering devices. Pics are the new floor with new AR 500 wear plate. Also some shots of the outside walls . It still has a bit more to go.Enjoy Attached Imagesquick shot of bore on last cut pass. you can see the line were the boss and the ear meet as well as the line at the cut. machine was about half way done with the cut. Not the smoothest cut but it is ok its my trainees first one. Attached Images

Reply:Is the paint for storage?   i don't think its going to last long once she gets to digging.Vantage 500's LN-25's, VI-400's, cobramatics, Miller migs, synch 350 LX, Powcon inverters, XMT's, 250 Ton Acurrpress 12' brake, 1/4" 10' Atlantic shear,Koikie plasma table W/ esab plasmas. marvel & hyd-mech saws, pirrana & metal muncher punches.

Reply:Mick wish i would have got a glimps of that project. Sounds interesting anyways.  I all ways like seeing others work or creations. his bucket tipped the scales at 132400 lbs according to the truck driver. A little heavier than I thought.The paint won't last too long at all. Its more of a company recognition thing. All our rebuilds are painted. easy way to distinguish our work from others.
Reply:You get all the fun jobs..Been following from the start..Sheer size of everything is unreal....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
