Hi. I have an ESAB 250 Migmaster Mig welder and the tap settings are not working well. Often I have to finagle the dial in between a setting in order to make the welder conduct. Once set, it will continue to work fine so long as I don't need to change settings. I resolved to fix this the other day and opened the machine up. 6 lines (for the 6 settings) bolted to what appeared to be a sealed unit that houses the "taps". Is this something where I can open the unit up and adjust things, or to fix this problem do I simply contact ESAB and buy a new tap setting unit? Thanks for any advice.
Reply:Can you spray the switch with contact cleaner? With it un plugged.Dan
Reply:A friend brought in a tap switch unit from an Esab 250.The switches were part of a small circuit board. His son had tried to fix them but they were really too fragile to be in a welder.I spent some time looking for a new board and found Esab wanted 700 bucks for a new unit. The welder was German made.I hope your welder is different. Those switches should not have been made as part of a circuit board.
