Hi everyone, I have a problem that I hope someone on here can help fix. My TIG quit working, well it runs, but it wont strike a arc.I tried the stick cable too and it wont arc either. If I lift a piece of metal up off the steel bench, with the welder running I see some large sparks from the metal to the bench.when this happened, both the TIC torch and the stinger were not touching the bench at all. The welder is a L Tec Heliarc 250 HF square wave. The welder was working great until I blew a fuse on one of the lines (220 V) feeding the welder, two times in a row.I then realized that there was a 1 hp pump wired into the same circut as the welder, thus causing the fuse to blow when I was cranking on the welder.I now removed the pump, checked the circut ( both legs have 110 V), but now the welder wont strike a arc,no matter what I try. Both the TIG and the Stinger wont arc, and it doesn't matter if I'm on AC or either DC's. I hope some one can steer me in the right direction to solve this problem, Thanks again everyone, Roger
Reply:Many welding machines have thier own on-board fuses. You should check all of them, too.

Reply:Hey Roger,You indicate that there is a cooling pump in the unit & you disconnected it. Sounds like there is a solenoid/switch in the circuit that disables the unit if the cooling pump is not working. You also didn't indicate if you are using an air or water-cooled TIG torch. Sounds like it is in the area of the cooling circuit. Just a guess from your description.DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Both leads have 110 volts but is there 220/230 across the two leads. Just seems odd that it worked fine untill the wiring change."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt
Reply:Well gang,I think I found the answer to my problem. I didn't notice that the Power cable adapter had moved, just enough to touch the side of the case on the welder. So that would explain the sparks when lifting the metal off the bench,it was just lifting a arc rod (7018 eg) that was stuck to the base metal, and having the base metal lift off the ground source, causing sparks. The welder had a half *** dead short between the power adapter and the painted welder case.As soon as I moved the adapter off the welder's case, and retightend it, the welder once again works properly. Oh and the torch is water cooled too, Thanks for everyone's help, Keep those sparks lit, Roger
Reply:Hey Roger,Glad to hear you found the problem & it didn't cause any other damage. Ok.....now get to some welding & post some pics......DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab.
