Below is a pic of 2 razor blades I welded together a few moments ago.Ok your asking yourself why am I crowing about a bad looking tig weld on 2 razor blades. This weld was done with a 26 series torch, medium gas lens, #8 cup, .040 2% lanthinated tungsten, 7 scfh argon flow, scratch start, 1/2" thick copper backer bar.The kicker here is the power source was 2 spare 100 watt solar panels wired in a series.Approx 25VDC at 5.25A Torch wired straight polarity.I have wanted to try welding with solar panels ever since I put in my array and drew a nice arc one day while wiring them.I think the test was very successful given I have less than 36" total tig welding experience to date. Now to practice.ThurmondMiller Bobcat 3 Phase,26 series gas cooled TIG torchMiller Suitcase X-Treme 12VS17 Series Tig Torch for Solar Panel Powered WeldingOxy/Acetylene Torch rigEVERLAST PowerUltra 205P
Reply:Im seeing potential for portable aerospace welding here! imagine welding thin stainless with nothing more than a gas bottle and a few solar panels
Reply:That is VERY interesting.   And no night shift sleep problems doing it that way....Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:I would look into building some sort of capacitor and power regulator so that you can control the output a little better, you might actually have something you can use!

Reply:Tritium- could u post a pic of your setup. This is really cool, and defiantly ingenious.  Is it just simply hooking up the lead/gas and ground, and weld away? none the less glad to hear.
Reply:That is very cool! Thanks so much for sharing. They say you learn something new every day. I had an hour and a half left before I broke that promise and you saved the day. Bravo!

Reply:Lol I was watching this show about the apocalypse and collapse of civilization last week, and all I kept thinking was "Damn, without electricity how am I gonna get anything welded?" Thanks for the info, please keep us up to date.
