I have a opportunity to test for a new job but one of the test is tig 2in copper nickel. I've done a lot of tig welding on stainless, carbon and some chrome pipe. But never copper nickel. So how different it compared to stainless. Any tips and tricks would be appreciated. Thanks Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Reply:Copper nickel welds much like Nickel or monel.................... usually has a bit of a "scum" layer on top of the puddle that can obscure you vision of the "wetting action". Like any alloy weld prep, exterior and interior surfaces MUST be clean and bright- done with a ss brush and ground with a dedicated grinding wheel. It has very high "surace tension" and as a result, it difficult -to a degree- to pushing the puddle around. Its not difficult, once you get used to the "look" The finished weld will look a shiny brownish grey when done correctly. If you have welded 9 chrome, you can weld CuNi.......Good luck. |
