Hey guys I am trying to build a table out of 1/4 inch I beam for the frame I have a thermal arc fabricator 252i. I am having trouble filling gaps because I blow through I'm using 1/8 7018  please help with settings
Reply:What settings are you using now?
Reply:1/8 7018  100- 125 amps if the gaps are to big cut and grind to get a better fit . If that is still not helping try using 1/8 6010 55-90 amps it works better filling gaps does your welder have mig capability that may be more forgiving of bad fitment
Reply:I was at 135 amps and dig set at 77
Reply:Yes have mig but wana use stick I'm new to mig n don't trust it
Reply:Pics?
Reply:An old trick I use when I'm in a big a$$ hurry, and have a bad fit. Knock the flux off another rod, and use it for filler, just like welding with oxygen & acetylene.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:How do u post pics
Reply:How much gap are we talking .i don't know the dig numbers my big 40 doesn't have that but 135 is to hot if you can't do a second rod ASCAP suggested turn down to 110 ish  depends on rod and machine go down as far as can and still run the rod start on edge sweep a cross mite take a few a temps to get it to bridge and you will get slag inclusions once bridged grind and re weld  or use mig
Reply:Thanks
Reply:I own a metal art buisness doing horseshoe art n blacksmith work I would like to cert in mig n stick

Reply:If I were you I would turn down the amps then I would find some copper plate and use it to back up the gaps. If you can't find a nice thick piece of copper then get some thick aluminum and use it as a back up just like the autobody guys do.This will explain what i'm trying to tell you http://www.eastwood.com/welders-help...op-plates.htmlLincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools

Reply:Sounds to me like a cert. in measure and cut may be in order.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)
Reply:If you have DC get some 6010 or AC 6011. They will be much easier filling any gaps. They are a fast freeze type rod. Then if you like the 7018 finish just run over it.
Reply:Yea the off cuts r called never used plasma cutter before
