I have a chance to buy an esab 275 mig.  i have heard they are no longer available but are a good welder.  why discontinued?  good welder?  thanx
Reply:ESAB is a huge company and moved production out of Florence, SC, discontinuing that model.Condition and price matter. They are good machines and the usual service parts are available.
Reply:I used one, and would buy one in a second. I personalty rather own a 275 then any 250 amp mig from Miller/Lincoln/Thermal-arc or even the newer Esab 280. Reply:Buy it!  I would in a minute.  I have an older ltec 250 it was based on.
Reply:I have a Airco 350 (made by ESAB) and it's going strong.  And, when I bought it I got a great deal on it.  However, if it ever needs a part, I think I'll have some nice scrap copper and that's about it.  I can't find the manual online, ESAB can't get it for me, and model-specific parts are nearly impossible to find (consumables, fittings, etc are pretty easy.)  The real branded ESAB will probably be easier to find parts for.  If you can't find a manual for it online, that should make you more suspicious.  The higher the risk of not being able to find parts/manual, the lower the price should be.I haven't been welding long, but I've researched my machine thoroughly, and I think I can safely give you advice on this one.Junky Airco Heliwelder 350 TIG (ESAB)Hobart Beta-MIG 250 with Miget spool gunJunky LTec 225 MIGESAB PowerCut plasma cutterOA welding and cutting"Better grinder than a welder."

ESAB makes a great machine.  Consumables can be a little tough to find as not all LWS carry them, but just plan ahead and you can order online from quite a few places.  If the price is right it should be a solid [email protected]
Reply:Find the interchanges. For example my MigMaster 250 has a Tregaskiss-style gun. Once you play nozzle/tip matchup you can get 'em from different sources.If the Heliwelder takes a dump, inquire of welder repair outfits. Many keep organ donor fleets.
Reply:most parts can be replaced except main transformers. PCB's are an aftermarket item, repair/exchange.
