Welder blowing up

Hi today I was welding a 3G open root weld and I turned my welder on and did the first pass then when I did my second pass my welder just went bang I turned it off then turned it on and it buzzed loud then soft and I turned it off and when i turned it on again it sounded normal I let it run for a minute and nothing happend. Reply:I would at least open up your welder and see if you can see what made the bang.  I can't say I've ever heard a welder bang.
Reply:The capacitors used in DC welders can sometimes go bang. Sometimes diode rectifiers will also go bang when they go bad. In either case the evidence will be very visible when you take the cover off. Reply:That happened to me once on my first Trailblazer but there was no starting it back up. There was oil coming out of two cracks in the case. I think it had over 11,000 hours on it at the time.

Reply:To answer your original question.....Yes, you yourself should be safe to attempt to weld with it as long as you follow typical welding electrical precautions.Ensure welder electrical line-in is properly sized, configured and grounded all the way back to electrical panel.Have air gap between welder metal case and welding table or work piece.Establish clean/solid/tight electrode ground thru work clamp to work piece itself, not the table alone.Wear rubber soled shoes on dry floor and appropriate gloves and PPE.What you experienced might be as simple as you exceed the welders duty cycle and it pooped the bed....Or it might have develop a high resistance connection that finally arced and sparked.Suit up and go for it ...If it's broke, you won't break it no more than it already is, but take care not to break you.
