Has anyone ever used or has an opinion on bessey quick release c clamps, I found some on craigslist and I believe lowes carries them. Just wondering if there are good, bad or junk? Thanks Steve
Reply:They're fine for a 3rd hand when you need it, but I don't think they will hold with the force that the old fashioned ductile iron clamps will hold. I have a few I use when I'm working by myself, and need another hand, but for real solid clamping I generally replace the Bessey style with a regular clamp after I've got the piece in place using the adjustable one."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:I've used bessey clamps a lot. They are excellent clamps. We use them all the time putting up structural steel with the Ironworkers. They come in all sizes. The nice thing about them is how quickly they go on and off.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:Thanks for the info, I found a deal on CL for 23 of them for 150.00(6-6in,10-4in,7-3in). Sounds like a deal, I'm going to get them tomorrow. Thanks Steve
Reply:They claim some rather high clamping forces in their brochures.I like them, use them a lot.I do have some Vintage heavy framed ductile clamps that seem to get even tighter. But in all honesty, the clamp is only supposed toe hold it together, not be used as a "mini-press"!
Reply:Yes you see so many c clamps that are sprung by clamping to tight. J. R. Bauer
Reply:Sprung Clamps can never be "un-sprung" either! No matter how hard you try!
Reply:I just picked up those c-clamps they look new and there's a lot of them. They should be fine for what I'm using them for, thanks every one for the great info. Steve Attached Images
Reply:Yes and a sprung clamp is hard if not impossible to use. J. R. Bauer
