Reply:I have worn Redwing Pecos (three pairs in five years) but recently purchased a pair of Keen work boots.  Quality is better, soles are better, steel toe is more comfortable and they are ten dollars less. http://www.keenfootwear.com/us/en/pr...n/dark%20brown

Reply:I recently bought some Thorogood (made in the USA) boots that I've been very happy with so far (about 3 months).
Reply:On my second pair of thorogoods. Union made in Wisconsin.  Most comfortable boots I've owned.  They are also fairly affordable compared to other American made boots.

Reply:whites boots are very nice, thorogoods are about 25% off at union boot pro.com,
Reply:I have flat feet too.  And one of the reasons I went for Thorogood is a recommendation that they provide "excellent support".  I'm finding that to be the case.  "Dr Shoals" and other consumer grade orthopedics help but don't cut the grade for me, but these boots do.  Given the degraded quality I keep hearing about on outsourced Redwings, these seem a great value to me.  If they don't start hurting my feet for some reason, or fall apart in an inordinately short time, I'll be a repeat customer based on my current opinion of the shoe.  Oh, and my shop floors are epoxy without "grit", applied by PO.  *GREAT* for cleanup and general appearance, *LOUSY* when wet or god forbid a bit of oil or coolant gets on the floor.  I've injured my knees and back wearing "good" tennis shoes.  But these boots haven't slipped yet, even when I walk through the oil that slings from my lathe spindle at high rpms.  Good stuff I think.

Reply:About 6 months ago, I bought my first pair of work boots as I had gotten a job in a factory. I decided to buy a pair of Caterpillar boots. Yes, it's the giant yellow machine Caterpillar; they're licensed apparently. I mostly wanted some steel toes and something that wouldn't slip on a floor covered in cocoa dust.I got the Second Shift style boots (partly because I actually worked second shift and the other pair I was considering was more expensive).Fit: I got a size 14 pair. They fit pretty well, but I thought they were a bit too big in height, so my feet flopped around in them a bit. Some insert soles fixed that problem pretty easily.Grip: They grip fairly well on normal floors. Unfortunately, I still slide around on cocoa dust a bit and the blasted crumb cake topping I make at my job that gets on the floor. I realized after a while that that was an impossible task, though. It's like standing on a rolling chair; you can have as much traction on the chair as you want, but it's useless if the chair just rolls on the ground.Comfort: Pretty good. These were the first pair of boots I ever bought, let alone a pair of steel toes. They felt really heavy when I first started wearing them, but now I'm used to it. My normal gym shoes feel like I'm not wearing anything now. My feet did hurt for a while, but I had only been working for a month and I wasn't really used to standing up all day long. I do like the little band of padding around the top of the boot where my foot goes in. No discomfort from that spot whatsoever, but I can't say if a guy who doesn't wear socks would have any discomfort.Durability: So far so good. The only complaint about durability I have is with the shoelaces. My boots just shredded normal shoelaces after about a month. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to wear a boot all day long with one side of a lace missing? Some ironlaces fixed that problem, though.Steel toes: They seem pretty good so far. I can kick something and not even feel it, assuming I kick with my toes and not the top or side of my foot. The steel toes do start to get cold after standing outside in cold weather for a while. I don't really notice it unless I curl my toes upward to the top of the boot, though.Warmth/Cooling: They seem decent in regards to temperature. I don't remember my heat overheating in summer. My feet don't get cold when I go outside for a while, but I think I've notices a SMALL amount of cold after a while. If you're standing outside in the middle of Antarctica in a blizzard, you might have a problem, but they should be adequate for most situations.Water resistance: I didn't spring for the waterproof model. That would been about another $40. The ones I got are pretty water resistant, though. I still have yet to experience water going through my boots even when I use the pressure washer at work that soaks the bottom half of my body in about 15 minutes. My boots cost me about $65-70 on Amazon if I remember right. I like them so far. I think I've seen some Caterpillar boots at Meijer and Target, too.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._ya_os_productLast edited by OoglieBooglie; 02-11-2014 at 02:13 PM.Reason: Added link and corrected a detail

Reply:Redwing lineman boots only boots that are comfortable and last longer then a couple of months. I am extremely hard on my boots the guy at redwing is amazed I can wear out a set of boots in 6 months he says they last other guys 2 years. But they give me my free pair under warranty so I only have to buy new boots once a year lol.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.Thorogood max wear wedge soles here. I'm extremely happy with them. I'll buy another pair, before I wear these out. I tried this after being disappointed in my last pair of Redwing 877's.
Reply:Do a lot of standing, not welding, in a forging shop. Wearing Timberland Pro's atm but going to spring for some custom White's or Justin's asap. I am however not looking intothe break in period for either of 'em. But all day on my feet.... Can't buy new feet (or back). Need the most comfort I can get with some durability. Not scared to blow a few hundred on the idea even if I end up goin' back to some off the shelf boots. How do you know the blacksmith's dog? When you hollar at him he makes a bolt for the door!
Reply:Any of you guys wear "Whites" brand boots?  Apparently that what most of the fire guys (smoke jumpers etc...) wear in the mountains.  But at $400++++ for those suckers,  that's a tough pill! They look ultra durable and reliable in harsh conditions.  I hear they last for years.  But again, for $200, my all leather Danners last a long time.  I spill jet fuel on them almost dailey and they hold up like champions.   The jet fuel eats up the soles (vibram), but those are easily replaced about every 3-4 years for me and it's only about $30 to replace.  I am wearing the same pair of Danners since 2004.Last edited by SuperArc; 02-13-2014 at 02:33 AM.

Reply:Danners.  Have used many/many other work boots over the years.  Pros n Cons with all.  Next pair purchased will be Danner Rampant Full-Length SlipsOns (TFX Wellington)."Discovery is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought" - Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Reply:have a choice of redwing, usa made justins, and wolverines at work. Redwings last the longest, hard to break it. Justins don't fit me. Wolverines are most comfortable but don't last as long. If I was to buy ST boots it'd probably be Double H. USA made and comfortable.Dave
Reply:Ive been through 2 pairs of USA redwings and I bought a pair of insulated thorogoods back in like october. Very satisfied so far, holding up great so far.. Didn't have to break in the leather like the redwings either. Probably going to try a regular pair of the thorogoods when spring time rolls around.
