These two projects are kinda the sideline right nowone 994 loader bucket. new liners and adapters and a few structural repairs nothing majornext is one of 3 D10 ripper shanks. Needed a section removed and new steel added. I will post a few more pics as I finish them up Attached Images
Reply:Hey good to hear from you I have run the old 992 but not the 994 big loaders both of themSeen guys snap a lot of shanks on rock jobs but was an operator fixing them was not my jobBut could you give me the run down on what your doing and with what on the shank your repairingThanksLast edited by killdozerd11; 08-02-2012 at 12:04 AM.Backed my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:one good thing about a 994..........it's down more than it's up, so you get plenty of time for weld repairs.6 Miller Big Blue 600 Air Paks2 Miller 400D6 Lincoln LN-25's4 Miller Xtreme 12VS2 Miller Dimension 812 4 Climax BW-3000Z bore welders Hypertherm 65 and 85Bug-O Track BugPair of Welpers

Reply:I believe you, but that bucket, compared to the wire feeder, looks too small to be from a 994. I have put the nose of my semi into a Michigan equal to a 992 for a photo op......... Now I never seen a 994 in person, but I heard they tower over the 992's."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:A lot of production loading buckets are narrow but deeper And i never have liked the duck bill type bucket I like to work piles left / right / center and  it's a pain to really level  and clean up withPlus you have to compensate for that extended point with extra boom height when backing away from the truck your loading I would have to explain about how production loading is done properlyBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Stick man you are correct that most 994 do tower the 992. This is not the largest bucket available for the 994. It is a deep bucket as killdozerd said. I will have to look for the photo but i do have some of the wider 994. the 25 yrd.Opus we do use open roots but the 3/32 flux core we are using doesn't take much. We will run one side and what isnt punched through we will skim with the air arc for a 100% weld.Well that shank was worn to about 2 " so we cut out that section back to good 4" and added in a piece. After that the area behind th shrouds will be built up in thickness . I will get some picks of that soon.
Reply:You gonna use the 110 mig welder on that? LOL I sure like my 12VS Extreme. Especially the hold feature. What wire in 3/32 are you running?

Reply:When i ran a lot of rip cats most had a wear shield that went on the shank and went from the top of the tooth up about 3 ft and pinned to the shank like a shin guard But on this shank there are no mounts for one i know that this is a single shank design and the ripper bar probably has a bush block on the rear so it can be pushed by another dozerWhen you run rip cats you want to heat the shank before you start ripping rock so you always start ripping in the dirt before you get into the rock area a cold shank if twisted slightly in crack will snap like glassBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ?? Reply:Cat used to have an add with 3 skid steers parked in the bucket of a 994! Makes our 66's and the 970 at work look like toys.Cheers Andrew
Reply:How about dome dimensions of that splice plate? How many passes will you make filling one side? I think these answers will help a lot of folks understand more about what you are doing. A pic or two of the root pass and the back gouge would be cool too.
Reply:Fat bastard. I would put some pics of the root and back gouge up but its all ready completed. I usually alternate sides to keep the piece straight. The splice plate is 25" X 18" and 4" thick. Using a 45 deg angle keeps the stress form use in check better than a 90 deg splice. It also allows about 40% more weld area.As far as passes go it would only be a guess it took about 40 lbs of wire to put the splice in and another 3o to build up the worn edges.basically a day of hood time.

Reply:Man oh man. All this talk of weld prep and 3/32" wire has me wanting to go back to work on a Sunday. These projects sure do look fun. Thanks for the photos!
