Weld testing

Are there are any reliable ways to test a weld at home?  I'm getting into welding on the suspension of my '71 Bronco.  They sound good and look good, but I have no idea if they're safe or sound.  Ideas?

Reply:that weld looks solid enough but if you want to test your welding there are testing fixtures on this forum if you do a search. cep has good 411 on it. if you want a quick check you can do a one sided fillet and use a gbmfh to break and examine it.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:I did that with my shop press.  Turns out 20 tons will break it if its welded on only one side.  Welding 3/16" on both sides of a 90 degree weld made the metal bend without breaking the weld.
Reply:as said gbmfh is a confidence builder. also dig in with a grinder..if you dont see anything but shiny its  good .  and a decent heat signature into the parent also is good sign. of course too much heat and the adjacent metal will break,,,
