Just A Small Atleration Please...

My parts man is big into guns..Brought me a piece where the strap goes but wanted it moved to the side rather on the bottom...So armed with a piece of 1/4" round 316 stainless and a tiny lathe I had to make a new receiver for the clip where the strap goes but it could not be drilled all the way thru because then the clip would not stay in the middle..Then just fill in the original holes where the clip was..(Last pic)...Pics tell the story..150? amps...045 309 filler3/32"Red SHARP tungsten..I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Hummm, I would have drilled all the way through the middle, and just used a stainless roll pin in the center, but that sure works just as well too.

Reply:Barrel-band sling mount attachment - check.Change under-mount sling point into side-mount sling point - check.Stainless is fine and all, but if the owner ever wants to 'dull' that metal or blue it (actual hot blue in a chemical tank or just some 'cold blue' touch-up stuff), then the stainless is going to stand out like a bright shiny sore-thumb. Just an FYI.  Unless the original piece(s) were stainless, in which case your change matches the rest of the metal.Oh, and although it's not going anywhere, I think it would have looked 'nicer' if you had run the weld bead all the way up to the top of your stainless nubbin.  Looks like you stopped about 3 dips short there.  Nice fill-in on where the original holes were.  The best laid schemes ... Reply:Big red gets the gold star. While not 100% technically correct. he was the first to correctly identify the rifle. The part is actually the gas block (the mini does not have a barrel band unlike it's little brother the 10-22)The gas block redirects the gas pressure from the barrel through the gas bushing and out the gas pipe to the op-rod. (Zap also made me a reduced size gas bushing to go in it)The whole idea was to produce an AC556 clone. The AC556 is the full auto version of the mini14. They had the sling swivel on the side.Here's a pic after I hit it with 80 grit alum oxide  and re-installed on barrel and the gas pipe attached. Reply:I chose the Eaton stock for mine because when extended the gun balances perfectly in one hand Most stocks for military weapons have sling on the side unless you want the magazine digging you in the backAnd i went with a sling adapter for the winchester 94 30-30 because it clamped just forward of the gas block and could be mounted in any direction with out having to modify the gas block at allThe 3 rifles that i shot competitions with were the mini 14 the AK 47 and my FN-FALall were accurized and modified by meBacked my CATMA over your CARMA oops clusmy me  What would SATAN do ??
