I had to swap out a bit in my die grinder today and started to chuckle at what I saw, so I figured I would share. You really dont think about all the odds and ends you come up with for a job. Oh, that is a 5/8" bolt on the end of a 1/4" bolt so I can chuck up a wire cone on the end. Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
Reply:That isn't cheap.  That's creative.  And making use of what ya got.  O.k. maybe also cheap...  Nice one.(Retired) Professional firefighter, amateur everything else I try to do...Oh yeah:  Go Big Red!   (You know: one of the 12 members of the Big 10 cuz we left the 10 members of the Big 12...)
Reply:cheap isnt always a bad thing, i think it was a very good idea!
Reply:Cheap isn't always cheap, once you factor in how much time you spent putting it together. I'm not complaining, I've got a habit of trying to repair old stuff even if it takes so much time I could have bought five or ten new ones if I had been doing work I get paid for instead...
Reply:There is a difference between cheap and poor.   The latter applies when u don't have the money to spend in the first place..Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:Howz your runout?  What's a "wire cone"?I'm worried about the unsupported cantilever length of your screw.   Seems a long lever arm after your welding dis-tempered the graded 1/4" bolt!   What's the RPM?  Can you run your cup brush on it if you cut the thread down to only 1/2" long?  Well ... maybe it doesn't matter if the wire wheel cinches tight to the nut.
Reply:you don't think the added rotating mass will have detrimental effects on the interals of that pnuematic grinder? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger

Reply:I somehow came up with one that is almost Identical except its machined out of one piece and hardened. and as short as it can be and still work. now where do you get wire wheel cups that will take 20,000 RPM? Mac

Reply:I centered the bolts by eye and go really lucky. I did knock the marks off so they would sit flat to each other. The wire cup spins up to a spooky rpm, so I kept it in contact with metal when I hit the trigger. Also, the home-made wrench is something I should have come up with years ago. Since you cant hardly fit a regular wrench in such a tight spot without grinding the sides of it down. One of these days, I'll find some smaller pieces of metal and make it a little nicer. But that's all I could find behind the shear. Attached ImagesCommon sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.
