Some of you might remember the 4x6 Grizzly bandsaw I picked on Craigslist a few months ago. After reading a bunch of threads about new stands, I decided to make one of my own. Before:After:I used 1.5 x1.5 x 3/16" angle for the legs, the top is 2.5 x2.5 x1/4" angle.I wanted a bigger footprint on the base for stability, the legs are 15 degrees.I used expanded metal for the shelf so it wouldn't collect dirt. The locking casters on the front wheels not only keep the tire from rolling but keep the caster from spinning. It's very stable when you lock them. The net gain in height is about 6", much easier on the back!I got this idea for the sawdust catcher from one of the other threads, it's a 8x8 baking pan my wife was going to throw away. She should know better, I save everything! It works pretty well,I would say it catches 90% of the sawdust, plus it's good for catching small parts.I got most of the material from my friend's scrap pile, I had to buy the 1.5" angle and casters.
Reply:It looks very professional, I like the catch pan idea too.

Reply:That is a nice setup.  Is it just as stable when you open it to use it as a vertical saw?Jeff
Reply:Looks great. I also like the catch pan.My problem is that when I cut something thick at the very end it does not bend down due to the design of the saw and twists a bit, pinches the blade and breaks it.  Doe this happen to others? How did you fix it? I am considering building a new stand also and am considering cutting the piece off that is outside the blade to prevent the blade breaking problem.
Reply:Looks familiar.....................You will love the saw now that it can save your back.  Love the design, simple & effective. Reply:Bob, just take a grinder to the outer area of the cutting surface.  It only needs a 1/16" or so to cut through & keep things square.  Also, make sure the blade goes into the blade groove (cut out spot between the two flat surfaces.  That should help with the binding.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build

Reply:jdog,It's just as stable as a vertical saw. If you look at the photo, I extended the top about 2 inches past the base of the saw. That, combined with the legs extending out so far, the motor doesn't come close to being over the back wheels in the vertical postion.Mark, yours was one of the designs I liked a lot. Thanks for the inspiration!
Reply:To be honest, I should have used the 15* angle for the legs.  Mine are angled to the side only 5* & back/forward 10*.  I like the angles of yours better.  I used the bottom shelf of the original stand as a chip tray on mine.  It slides out & I can empty it easily.Anytime my friend, I'm honored you looked at mine for inspiration.MarkI haven't always been a nurse........Craftsman 12"x36" LatheEnco G-30B MillHobart Handler 175Lincoln WeldandPower 225 AC/DC G-7 CV/CCAdd a Foot Pedal to a Harbor Freight Chicago Electric 165A DC TIG PapaLion's Gate Build
Reply:I don't know why the manufactures send those bandsaw stands nobody uses the originals and they could save shipping weight and cut the price by $5.00 inquiring minds want to know

Reply:i like it... iv'e been meaning to make one myself
Reply:That a very nice stand. I use a shallow cookie (baking) sheet for my catch pan.
