Reply:Get some superglue and weld your fingers together so you can't get on WeldingWeb and ask such silly questions.

Reply:You could always weld up some boxes, they seem to be quite popular.Tim Beeker.

Reply:A tripod for said video camera you want? I dunno. Google welding projects. Or to really kill time, try to weld a box out of aluminum foil. Reply:Do you have the hinges done yet? If not, get on it. Make sure to do each hinge on each door, and while your at it weld the screws to the hinges.
Reply:Eagleman, first things first don't take everyones replys to heart including mine. We are a pretty tough bunch around here. Many people come here seeking advice that has taken many of us years to aquire and they never bother to use the search function or do any homework on there part. With that being said I didn't realize your are 15 years young, that to me changes things a bit. I was your age 22 years ago and was getting involved in welding at that time as well. I was very fortunate as I was able to take 3 years of vocational welding in high school. That turned out to be my best choice to date as I was able to learn a trade that has provided me with a means for making a good "honest" living. I plan on keeping up with you and your thread and hope to see you get some ideas and and make the most of them. One suggestion is to get yourself some 3/8 or 1/2" round bar and make some nice shepherd's hooks and various flower pot holders, plus you can hit up all your women neighbors and make yourself some cash to help fund your next idea/project. Keep us posted.
Reply:Since Eagleman is welding at an early age, he has the chance to get more years of practice and experience before hitting the job market. Eagledude and ArcSpark, remember that since there isn't much "lateral" entry into welding that if you hit it hard and stay at it you will be able to make SERIOUS money early in your life if you want it. While many of your peers will get sucked into debt slavery for student loans, you can be building the financial basis for a strong future. Tell anyone who tries to discourage you to pound sand. Now go weld something! When you aren't melting metal, STUDY both welding and welding equipment. There are plenty of welders who are good but would benefit from more knowledge of welding machines and welding theory.
Reply:At 15 I would be welding up a mini bike, go cart, putting a motor on a bicycle, etc. I always was and always will be a motor/vehicle freak.Another very good one is make up some useful tools for yourself. Weld up a welder cart, third hands, welding table, grinder stand, or stuff.
Reply:Ok, Good suggestions guys.... I wish at 15 I had had any guidance about metal... I swear that until I was an adult I did not know that drill bits could be sharpened. My father threw away drill bits when they got dull. His ' tool box' was literally an apple crate with a few rusty tools thrown into it. Needing to make a hole in a piece of metal was a major problem for me growing up.... I am exactly the opposite of my father ... on purpose. It is a great opportunity having the internet and forums like this where a huge number of people with Huge and Wide experiences are available to share their wisdom and knowledge.Weldandpower Lincoln 225 AC,DC with Briggs 16hp gas engine.WW2 era Miller TIG.
Reply:Before kids, I would usually get done with work before the wife. I would sit in my yard and weld scrap together. I would make these huge pieces of.......... scrap, but it will help you with controlling your puddle. Plus if you weld every possible area of contact, it will provide all positions. Then when it got too big, I would scrap it and start over.Or, grab a plate or piece of heavy angle, and pad it. Here is one I did when I was bored. http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=39699"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Stick-man is wise. Welding is "repeated fine muscle movements" and that's a good way to "program" muscle memory.Originally Posted by farmallStick-man is wise.
Reply:Stick man and farmall speak the truth. I've always wanted to do welding as a career, though my folks aren't happy about me just wanting to go to vo-tec. Farmall described the exact tactic I've used "but think of the huge debt! Just what I'd need". It's True! And eagleman, take their advice on studying. Although my study materials are a bit dated (1980, it still recommends asbestos gloves )... Reply:There is vast amounts of free info on the internet, and if you want to download videos use Firefox with the Downloadhelper extension then play the resulting .flv files using vlc. That way you can view, pause, and repeat them without the delay of a weak internet connection and you can accumulate a folder of the best ones.http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.htmlhttp://www.downloadhelper.net/http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.htmlThe Miller website has lots of videos and downloadable material. An excellent way to an "instant career" is to join the military when you hit 18. Most folks who get into fields involving welding, fab, and machine shop have prior experience. My career was in fighter aircraft maintenance, which if you are a gearhead can be large fun.I'm of course biased towards the Air Force, but the Navy has superb training in many fields. Do one enlistment and you can, besides schooling while in service, have a full four year G.I. Bill college ride usable up to fifteen years after separation. If you like the career, it can be a great way to go. Plenty of vets on these forums can back that up.Other than one extremely bright fellow who founded his own software company, I may be the only person from my high school class who retired before age 50. If I hadn't waited to 21 to enlist, I'd have been done that much sooner. I joined during a Recession in 1981, and haven't felt any economic downturns since. It also got me out of New Jersey.
Reply:BTW the US imports from Venezuela because we have refineries which can handle their particular crude and the price is right. Business trumps ideology. Children think ideology. Adults think "global economy" which trumps ideology which is mostly for scaring voters. The US has places for Canadian oil to be refined, but TransCanada wants PORT access for reasons already explained. That way it can sell to China.http://seekingalpha.com/article/2548...eed-each-otherHardly the stuff that won the West. The lack of "serious" response to Chavez's barbs is a roaring silence. However, we note that Bush, Cheney and company come from an oil background and are well-known for their knowledge of the business. Do they refrain from responding to Chavez's constant and somewhat juvenile comments because of this? Comments that could, given a more retaliatory stance from the USA, blow up into a more serious international incident and (heaven forbid) affect the supply of black gold reaching the US?
