I received my HTP 221 last week. I'm really happy with the purchased. I never Tig welded before and after a couple min, I was able to lay some pretty good beads down. Having a blast learning to tig weld (Have a lot to learn!!!). With mig, I was always looking to build something but with Tig, just laying beads keeps my attention. So many things going on at the same time. Did a You Tube Video. Will have at least another part coming. Will show the torch and pedal then. Takes me a bit since my video editing skills are a little off. I try to keep the Umms down but I still have a bunch. I need to work on that. Sorry for the lower volume half way through. My wife was putting my son to bed and I had to keep my voice down. I was wrong about the duty cycle. The HTP actually has a higher duty cycle than the Sync.Last edited by mikeb9550; 01-23-2012 at 06:00 PM.Hobart Handler 210 with SpoolgunHypertherm PM30 PlasmaHTP 221 Tig WelderHF BandsawHF Auto Dark Helmet
Reply:Cool. Can't wait for the next vid/rest of the review.
Reply:I hope to the next one uploaded tonight or tomorrow. I know you have yours in layaway Rockchopper. If you have any specific questions, just let me know. I think you will be really happy with it. I havent tried the gas lens yet. At First the controls look complicated but its really not the case.Hobart Handler 210 with SpoolgunHypertherm PM30 PlasmaHTP 221 Tig WelderHF BandsawHF Auto Dark Helmet
Reply:Looks like a really nice setup you've got there.  That new machine is a lot deeper than I was envisioning it would probably be.  I'm really interested to hear how it performs.  I have purchased consumables from HTP, and love the CK worldwide brand that they sell - it's really right around the very best quality that is available anywhere.  I've also experienced good service and reasonable prices from HTP as well.  I like their flowmeter too, it's a great value for about $35-$40, and all brass.  Thanks for the initial review (despite the family pressures.)  Really interested in seeing the machine get put through it's paces after you get it up and running and had a good opportunity to test it out.

Reply:Here is a Pic of me playing around with the Pulse setting. It was what I had it set in the video but I turned the amps up a little. I have to get a filter for my camera before I shoot the actual welding.1/16" stock. Hobart Handler 210 with SpoolgunHypertherm PM30 PlasmaHTP 221 Tig WelderHF BandsawHF Auto Dark Helmet

Reply:Yeah you remember right. I'm getting almost the same setup as you water cooled 25ft leads plus stick lead no dual voltage because its staying in the shop, only thing different then what you have is I ordered both the pedal and the rotory control and I also ordered the Pyrex cup kit to try It. Keep us updated as you get more time with it, I have mine about halfway payed off now so these videos help to hold me over.

Reply:Yeah I'm a weldor at work Too, im the only weldor in a large machine shop but it's a little different when you buy welders for the house. I try and do a little sidework to pay for them. My ironman 230 payed for itself in two jobs I did over the summer so that made it alot better. It's gonna take alot longer for the tig to pay for itself but it seems like its gonna be a awesome machine. I use a old airco 325 amp tig welder at work and that thing is a beast but it doesn't have any of the fancy controls or anything and I never need more power then what I'll get out of the htp so I'm fully expecting the htp to be a nicer machine to use then that old airco in most every way. What kind of projects you planning? I like to fab my own 4x4 and motorcycle parts but it's amazing what you find around the house that needs welded.
Reply:That's cool. I hope to get good enough to do stuff like that in my spare time. Once I build my rack and welding table, I was going to build my son a train - go cart type of thing to drive around the yard. The challenge will be the front mounted engine.Hobart Handler 210 with SpoolgunHypertherm PM30 PlasmaHTP 221 Tig WelderHF BandsawHF Auto Dark Helmet
Reply:That sounds pretty cool. Put pics up when you start on them. I'm interested in how your gonna make a train/go cart, sounds neet.

Reply:Hey Mike glad you like your machine. I bought one as well but only air cooled, 12.5' leads, and 220v only. The only thing I regret so far is not getting the longer leads. I'm sure I'll be wanting the cooler at some point too.I've fired mine up and yeah I need some serious hood time! Still, I'm having a boat load of fun.  I welded up a couple brackets, some hangers, and a couple of boxes (I welded a 'box' out of two pcs of angle and two caps today and it has water in it! Doesn't leak! Steamed like a locomotive welding it up! Alot of fun and I'm shaking it in the living room and my wife is saying  . All the beads are really inconsistent and ugly but I'm becoming a pro at regrinding and regrinding and regrinding my tungstens After firing up my machine I've run through about a pound of 3/32 ER70S6 tig and a pound of 3/32 6011 stick. First time ever doing either process and I'm comfortable saying I pretty much suck, but, I'm having a great time.I will say that I've appreciated reading all of the info on this forum. Yeah I suck, but because of this site I can tell where I'm cold, slow, jittery, way too hot, have a bad ground, didn't clean my metal, torch angle is off (why is my other hand burning?), and so many other factors.I am learning with every bead. I've tried to put my new HTP machine through the paces and so far it's better than I am. Like you, my only frustration that is out of my control it that the on/off switch is on the back. I don't have my machine 'set in place' yet, but the switch in the back is  dumb. I will try to figure out how to leave the switch on and put a 'home made' 220v 50a power switch between the breaker box and the machine. Just another work in progress.Mike you mentioned you're in Michigan in one of your videos, shoot me a pm if you're near Metro Detroit and want to try out my machine and show me how it's done. I can use all the help I can get to lay down some decent beads! How do you know the blacksmith's dog? When you hollar at him he makes a bolt for the door!
Reply:Is it common to have smaller filler wire come in such short lengths?I thought all filler came in 36" pieces?  (I am another noob)miller syncrowave 250hobart handler 140home made 400 amp engine driven in progress...
Reply:It does but most people cut it in half anyway to make it easier to handle so htp started selling it that way. Htp is very good for consumables and ther machines of course but I recommend Weldingsupply.com for filler rod they have the best prices I have found.
