I'm doing an evening course at the minute and I am going to be doing a test and I want to do a bit of research online since it's only 3 hours twice a week, the test I will be doing is a 12mm thick plate in the vertical position and a 12mm thick pipe on to the side of it, starting underneath doing overhead then coming up the side with a vertical weld and then over the top and same on other side with 2 passes each side, what I need to know is what is that position called so I can find it online to try learn a bit even while away from the class, thanks for any help
Reply:The pipe is in a 5G position if it's a groove weld or butt joint. However if it's coming off of a flat plate it's a fillet weld, or 5F. What process are you using? Stick?
Reply:It's a stick weld, a weave motion with double pass, I could find out in there what they call it but I think EU and US have different names for positions? It's easier to know the US name for it because there would be more online from websites your side of the water
Reply:I found this picture online it's similar to what is on the wall of the workshop, it's the bottom left picture, plate on its side with the pipe coming off it, start underneath in the centre, going from there around to the left up to the centre on top, same on the other side and then again another pass over it going toe to toe, pushing the rod instead of pulling it, with a side to side motion and in at a 45 degree angle, just wanted to look online and see if any other methods of doing it, our instructor tries to show us the way he does things but says there are other ways so I just wanted to see if there is another way to try get this sorted because I have the test in 2 weeks time
