Does the Millermatic 251 have tapped voltage selection or continuous?  What is the general opinion of this welder?
Reply:Try google.  You obviously haven't.My name's not Jim....
Reply:The 251 is a variable voltage unit. The short circuit transfer arc with an .023 - .035 ER70S-6 wire and C-25 is real soft. Weld puddle wet out is very good. I use own a 251, I replaced it with an ESAB Migmaster 250, because I decided I didn't like the real soft arc.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice

Reply:Morgaj1,Maybe some posters just get tired of the "basic questions" which can be easily answered with a little homework.Ever consider just going to millerwelds.com and downloading a copy of the owners manual.  That would have answered the question and given you full specs for the machine. The MM251 is a great mig welder (in my opinion) and comes ready to "plug and play" with the 30A Spoolgun.  Both regular gun and the spoolgun remain connected, with the machine responding to the one with the trigger pulled.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

Reply:Dan,I knew full well why you went with the ESAB vs the 251.  As I remember the decision was made because the ESAB arc more closely matched the arc characteristics you were used to on your other machines.Only thing I wish the 251 had that it doesn't is the inductance control.  I guess you never "miss" what you didn't have, but after using the XMT and 714D feeder, it's pretty cool what it can do.You'll never see me dispute your opinions on mig welders.  Some day, when I grow up, I want to be able to run mig beads like you do consistently.  You and ZT run mig like a machine.PS.  But I got to side with your son on the decision.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.

That's the problem though all I can do at this time is look.  By now you know that I want a unit with an adjustable inductance control. Last night I was little upset with SundownIII for rubbing in the fact that he has a unit that he can tweak (inductance control) the short circuit transfer arc characteristic on, when he too by now should know that he has the type of unit that I'd like to have.
