My son is 19. He's had a troubled start to adulthood but to his credit, he cleaned himself up and is trying to put a life together. I've been considering sending him to a trade school (if he agrees of course) and I think a career in welding would suit him well. His math abilities are off the charts, and welders make a good living and the industry doesn't seem to be disappearing any time soon.My problem is what school to send him to. The local community college (ccac) has a 2 year welding program that supposed to end with a few certifications. There are also a few for-profit schools in the area, triangle tech, Lincoln tech, and the like.I'm very suspicious of for-profit schools. They are in the business of raping the federal grants and scholarships to death and teaching you something is usually secondary. With that said, I'm leaning towards trying to get him into the community college but I wanted to ask you pros out there your opinion on the issue. What's the best way to get training and other preparations to do to make getting your first welding job the easiest?Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
