Here's a racing boat blower aluminum pulley/belt cover I fabbed for a customer to protect the passenger seat occupant. It is attached to the rear of the passenger seat for easy access to the front of the engine as per owner specs.. Nice, easy job.Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:I do the same thing to drain the quart plus filter on my 7.3 PSD. Roll under the truck with a bucket and cheap cordless drill and 1/4" bit. Drill hole at bottom of filter and then quick pull the bit and let it drain into the bucket. Lots easier to remove the filter when it's not full of hot oil on a goofy angle..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Nice job!I'd also fab a cover for the back side of that guard. Split half bolt on? More of a PITA for service work but...... I'd also fab something for that alternator belt. Reason? I guess I've spent too much time with OSHA compliance so I've learned to "see" some things. The long hair comment is a good point. There are a couple of other senarios come to mind. Someone flips a towel? Other garments laying around? There's going to be some wind going throught that boat and anything not nailed down could wind up in there. Even if no personal injury occurs, something getting in there blowing the belt/s off could wreck the ride for the day.Sorry if I'm gloom and doom, but I've seen enough preventable injuries for a lifetime.

Reply:The detail of how you rounded the edges of the perforated sheet looks really good, Yorkie.  Did you just tack weld the perforated sheet to the surrounding piece on the inside?  Thanks for sharing.

Reply:Excellent job ....But, what is gonna protect the backseat occupants when / if that blower lets loose?   I guess I am getting old lolLast edited by woodtick007; 09-27-2012 at 05:03 PM.
Reply:Hey guys,Well, all of you surely must have some mental faculties to have some semblance of understanding to comprehend that ANYTHING mechanical can FAIL!!!!!! Duuuuuuuuhhhhh!THIS IS A RACING BOAT......NOT A F'N FISHING BOAT! I've known the owner for many years & he is a fireman who has a tremendous respect for safety & personal protection. Now, you all can continue to interject "WHAT IF??????" into this thread......it is an effort in futility. Use some common sense.....in the entire gamut of any kind of racing, there is the danger for a mishap. That's the chance you take for your desire to "I feel the need for speed!". Make sense??????Ok.....here's the build.Denny Attached ImagesComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Hey Kelvin,You definitely get the "DUUUUUUUHHHHHH!" award for today. Again.....another mindless question. I guess you didn't really look at the pics, did you???????THE SEAT IS TO HOLD THE F'N BLOWER COVER ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Geeezus Krist.....ANYONE HERE HAVE ANY GREY MATTER BETWEEN THEIR AUDITORY CANALS???????????????????Oh, BTW.....the YouTube clip in post #16 definitely shows the PURE STUPIDITY of the boat operator. STUPID IS WHAT STUPID DOES!!!!!!! It's a shame that someone has to suffer because of the operators' absolute disregard for the passengers' safety. He is a prime example of an a-hole, show-off who needs his a$$ kicked with a size 16 Texan pointed boot."Just sayin"..........DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:Nice job man. the only issue i see, (but you already answered it for me, as "owner wanted it that way") is that if the motor starts rocking it could end up hitting the shroud. but that is assuming it has a typical automotive style motor mount, and is not solid mounted. i would hate to see the vibration of the motor hit the shroud and possably chew up the belt. and for that reason i would have insisted on the shroud motor mounted so it can rock and roll with the vibrations of the motor. but I also cannot see how much clearance there is between the shroud and belt. Again nice job, sometimes your hands are tied by the customers choice. On the safety thing, I will not comment, i have my opinions, and they are just that opinions. I do not know the user, nor the builder. i dont know there personalitys, there are people i would do things just like this for. because i know there intentions on safe use. then there are guys that i would not even touch the thing for fear of them killing themselves and it being on my hands. I get the OSHA, and safety guys too. your looking at what is mandated for a commercial envorment. this is a personal watercraft. there are big diffrences there.Offering CNC Plasma cutting and welding projects.Follow me on facebook https://www.facebook.com/nobigdeal.fabSupport those that support WW.
Reply:Yorkiepap. It's clearly a racing boat!I just took a lead from your original post. "I fabbed for a customer to protect the passenger seat occupant."Sorry I blew up. Nuf said.

Reply:Looks great yorkie. You see offshore boats down this way all the time with the same kind of setup and with 5 or 6 people while they are hauling a$$ along the coast on poker runs and during races. You did what the customer wanted, not what everyone else who has never been around these expects you to do.
