Inductance on a mig

I noticed on my Maxtron that it has an inductance setting.Man what a difference it makes for short circuit mig.My question is....Is there any way to add an inductance adjustment to my Millermatic 185?Miller Dynasty 200DXMiller Spectrum 250DMiller Millermatic 200Bunch of old blue dinosaurs....

Reply:You can wrap the work lead around a lump of iron only problem is each wrap is likely only going to give you a few micro Henrys. Or in other words almost none.Best way is to add inductors.I have been hunting for inductors for my mig. Reply:As for stepping on a millermatic 185... CV welders all drop voltage a bit (droop/slope) when the wire shorts and then take a short period of time to reach max amps (all she's got in kw) to break the wire off. The easiest way to get a little slope is an inductor in the ground circuit, and it looses very little heat (power) to the air. The other alternative used (for sub arc) was to put a resistor in larger machines - that did put a lot of heat in the room other than from the weld (got more slope though).If you put 6-10 turns around a tube, you'll see a difference (also good at attracting metal dust).Matt
