...do you bleed the remaining pressure off the line going into the welder or is that ocd overkill?
Reply:I don't think it matters.
Reply:Very little pressure. I would rather welding gas than moist air in the line.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Good point
Reply:I never bother turning it off to begin with.I grab a gun, hit ON and pull the trigger. The ground is always clamped to the table.Bubble gumTooth pixDuct tapeBlack glueGBMF hammerScrew gun --bad battery (see above)

Reply:I just shut it off, and turn it back on when I come back to weld. If there happens to be a slight leak in any of the gas tubes, then my tank might be empty by the time I come.back to weld. Could be 3 hours later or 3 days later.
Reply:I just close the valve when I'm done welding, I come back another day and my gauge Still reads 25cfh.Wanna guess the brand of my regulator???~JohnJust a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:I bleed my regulator down and turn the handle out till loose.  I do that on everything when done with it for the day.Especially on my oxygen regulator otherwise it creeps up. Reply:My regulator is a Smith. The Best IMO.I just shut the valve off, next day turn it back on, none of the needles have moved, so it shouldn't be a problem.Correct me if I'm wrong.~JohnJust a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:I never have. After working with industrial regulators for years i jyst didnt see the need. Some of those regs had been in service since the 30s.
Reply:Originally Posted by PipelinerI'm OCD and yes I bleed. Unless I'm going to use it the next day then I might not. But I lay awake for a while contemplating whether I should walk back out and bleed it off. I also punctuate text messages. It's hell to be me some days.
Reply:I turn mine off and bleed the lines.
Reply:Argon..Helium.. Just get shut off.. No bleed down needed...Oxygen /Acetylene however get the bleed down every time.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Switch on and gas on. Switch off and gas off. My Miller 251 and former Syncro 250 regulators kept their pressure on the dial for ever. The Dynasty 350 and XMT 350 seem to bleed down on their own overnight.

Reply:I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I'm going to be welding so infrequently and I didn't know if that would cause an issue.  Are there any precautions for infrequent welders, like winterizing a car?
Reply:Id assume keep it free of dust, and in a spot hard to get at by animals. Mice, etc

Reply:I shut them off and bleed them down. I lost an entire cylinder of argon to a leak once when I failed to shut off. I'm more careful now. I keep a bottle of soap and a brush handy to soap check a new cylinder at the regulator to see if it's leaking after I connect it. I work alone and when I leave the shop, everything is shut off until next time. Works for me.Miller Millermatic 252Miller Syncrowave 200Liincoln AC-DC 225Victor O-A SetI shut off cylinder valves, bleed down all my gases, OA, Ar and C25, and back off the regulators when done for the day.  I tend to be OCD with my equipment and gases, including argon and c25 mix, especially because I weld at home and because that's the way I was taught to operate and treat the equipment.  Maybe it's lack of experience but till I have more I'll do it this way.
