I am an 18 year old high school senior graduating in two months, I am taking welding school at the best rated community college in houston, very interested in welding pipe or working on a refinery or power plant... Anything with pipes... I intend on taking the more advanced classes for pipe welding in school after the basics but I already know that will just scratch the surface when it comes to the industry.. If any pipe welders on this forum could help me out and point me in the right direction of what companies to pursue that would be much appreciated. Just trying to get a head start on planning my life out that's all
Reply:I'd give your local pipe union a call they would know the best route to take in that area
Reply:thanks, just did some searching and found out my local union in houston tx is 211 and offers free schooling and paid training... considering it.
Reply:Welding as a trade covers a very broad spectrum. Pipe welding is also a somewhat generic term as well. You have everything from autogenous welding in a clean room in places like a brewery or dairy plant, to stick welding in two feet of mud on the right of way. I have never met anyone that does it all. They probably are out there but i would imagine they are few and far between. Try to narrow down what you are looking to get in to. School will help you with this as you probably will get to learn the different processes and figure out what you really like. Just my two cents.
Reply:Maybe think about Lincoln's or Hobart's welding school. http://www.lincolnelectric.com/en-us...ng-school.aspxDont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400 |
