I have a Lincoln 225 stick welder that used to be my dads. I have welded before, but not good.I have project to make a setup for a set of forks for my 4410 John Deere tractor. I was going to use two by two, or two by four quarter inch square tube for the top and bottom. I will use quarter inch flat stock for the sides, and one inch flat for the top and bottom rails. I think my problem in the past has been the settings and the wrong welding rod. What would your recomendations be for the welder settings and rod? Thanks.
Reply:Just wondering, did I ask a hard question?
Reply:Well, not to discourage you, but you need to practice a lot more before you weld a set of forks for a tractor. If you don't get it right, someone can get hurt or killed. Buy a bunch of metal and practice with a bunch of different rods and settings.Lincoln Powermig 255Hypertherm Powermax 45Thermal Arc 161SOxweld 24R OA TorchStill Looking for an Old Round Top Idealarc 250
