I saw the thread that faststang71 posted about the helmet but I didn't want to hijack his thread with my own question. My question is, does the color of the helmet make any difference for welding in bright sun light? I know that using "white" colored shirts or helmets supposedly is distracting when TIG welding due to light reflection up under the hood etc. I'm wondering though about stick welding in the outdoors. The sun seems to always creep over the top of my head and down into the helmet of my cheap auto darkening model, thus preventing me from seeing my welding. I know about the "pancake" style pipeliner's helmets, but I don't want that style even though they are superior for keeping the sunlight out. So, I want what's "second best." I figured the Fibre-Metal would be the one to get. I like the simplicity of the Fibre-metal pipeliner helmet (non auto darkening) and wonder if it's better to have the light or dark colored helmet for outdoor use. It seems that when I google Fubre-metal helmets, a white colored one always pops up first. Looks like they offer it in grey color too, but that's harder to find. Does it make any difference at all because I'm getting seriously frustrated with the sun for just a hobby welder. A sun umbrella helps, but I can't use http all the time for out of position welding. Thanks for your opinion.Last edited by MoonshineMetals; 04-12-2014 at 12:01 AM.
Reply:A good helper or bandannas or rags fix any and all sunlight problems. Also they used to make the fibre metal pipeliners black back in the day. Model 110. they do not make them that color anymore. Also i trick i learned. When not welding in position, Flip around your welders cap to the front and flip the bill up. Helps with the light. Hell, Ive even used duct tape before.Last edited by Bostick101; 04-12-2014 at 01:16 AM.~1987 Lincoln Sa-200~~1978 Miller Big 40~ (restored) ~and everything inbetween~
