Best Austin, TX Welding Supply and Steel Depot?

Hey guys!So, I finally completed the move I've been talking on and on about since about 2010 lol. I've officially left Ohio and now reside in warm, sunny Austin, Texas!I've leased a house here, and also leased a shop. I've brought down all my tools, and I'm getting things setup...Next up, I've got to find a new source of steel, and welding supplies! My cylinders are leased through Airgas, so I'm kind of left dealing with them, but for everything else, I'm still looking around.Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Reply:Welcome to Texas Lanse. Been watching your videos to learn some dos and don'ts.There is also Asero steel off of 183 and 969. They keep their stuff outside so you may have some rust on your metal when you buy it.
Reply:There used to be a couple of pros who hung out here and at Hobart and Miller who lived in the Austin area.  Maybe they'll chime in if they're still around. IMO, you need to get out of the leasing business and buy your cylinders.

Alamo Welding Supply - locally owned, great folks is who I go to.  Just east of down town on Chicon.Westbrook Metals is a stone's throw from Airport Blvd and Lamar.  There's Metals4U further up north.  I'm not a pro so prices aren't as critical to me so I can't say if they are better than anyone else.  Personally, I like Westbrook.Holler if you need anything / help getting set up.  You'll find Austin is a bit different than the rest of the state.  For better and for worse.Where's your shop and what part of town are you living in?  I'll let you know if you need bars and a shotgun.

Reply:Now that so many people have moved to Austin, a location close to where you are working is important unless you want to spend 2/3 of your workday in traffic.I live south.I mainly use Westbrook Metals, central, north, (Think it's the same as Metals4U, already listed) and order a day ahead and only pickup between 10:00 and 2:00 to avoid getting stuck in traffic.  Best not to need supplies in general on Friday.  I don't know of anyone south with a good inventory.Used to use Airgas, but they are too far north for me.  I have had very positive experinces with Alamo for gasses - good prices, good staff.  Praxair has ripped me off, calling ahead to confirm one price then arriving for 3x the price which I was stuck with paying because of time demand... unless I am to believe I was quoted for a "different type of argon" as they tried to explain.  Had used them because of location, but no more for me.Don't remember having bad experiences with Texas Welding, but think I was mainly buying CO2 for beer back then
