I just finished cutting and drilling most of the pieces for my welding cart build. I would love to hear about any improvements/alterations that others have made to the basic Miller design. I am planning to go mostly from the basic design with a few artistic (I hope!) liberties. Primarily, I am thinking about plasma cutting my own designs for the ends of the cable holders. Here is what I am starting with: Attached ImagesMIG and Plasma
Reply:Ok, for my "customization" I had my daughter draw a lightning bolt and star to use as end caps for the cable holder. Here are the templates and the cutouts that I made from them: Attached ImagesMIG and Plasma
Reply:Here is the completed frame. It doesn't appear that one chain is going to be enough to handle my bottle. I think that either using two chains or a "V" block on the floor to hold the bottle in place would work. What have others done? Attached ImagesMIG and Plasma
Reply:Welcome MoJo, Looks like you are off to a good start! I would say that maybe get something between the rear wheels to keep them from folding in at the top. A pipe or tube between the wheels That will be alot of stress on the bottom tubes (twisting)holding the rear tires by the time you get a tank on there. My thoughts anyway keep up the good work.

I've caught clothing on table corners & machinery before, not a good idea making something pointy that invites it.Perhaps weld them on to circular pieces. That way you keep the look of the pieces your daughter drew up (yeah, that kind of stuff is real important) but do it safely!I would drill a couple holes thru a steel circle & plug weld from the back.Just a thought. Looking good. It's always nice to see someone put time & effort into something like this. IMHO of course
Reply:For the cable holders, use the plate with  cutouts.  Round off the top and add a piece of pipe to wrap cable on. Now you will still have the daughters art work .

Reply:Ok, here is what I created to tie together the wheels and support the cylinder. I haven't welded it in yet because I plan to replace the plywood with steel plate. Attached ImagesMIG and Plasma
Reply:Here are the rings that I rolled and the final cable holders. I don't like them as much as the originals, but I think that the lightning bolt and star will "pop" after I paint them. Attached ImagesMIG and Plasma
Reply:Nice job, dont let the ladies interfere but nice embellishments .

Reply:In an effort to keep myself motivated/learning/moving forward, I have been thinking about a simple method of rating my projects/growth. Here is a simple spreadsheet that I put together for this project. Does anyone else do this type of thing? Thoughts on improving it, but keeping it simple? Attached ImagesMIG and Plasma
Reply:I thought this was Supposed to be a Miller Welding Cart build, it looks more like a Everlast Welding Cart based on the Miller design. Looks good though, what you got going on there.

I've used Harbor Freight ratcheting tie downs & made custom ends up that can be bolted down to the cart. Anybody with a good sewing machine can sew them on after you fab them up. I use a commercial place locally.Just a thought. You can quickly remove it to change wire, or even if you want to put a different machine on it later on.IMHO of course
Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749Man, you're a lot more organized than I'll ever be I usually end up changing things so much from the original plan, that drawing up a spread sheet to outline the construction of something would make me look like an idiot! That's not very hard for me sometimes Good idea. You'll find as you build more stuff, you'll get faster & more adapted to the process.Just one other suggestion.Have fun with everything you build & don't beat yourself up if you make some mistakes along the way. You can always weld metal back together........IMHO of course
