Hi everyone. I am a newbie here and recently come across with a defect and try to figure out the possible cause. We have a manifold which is made of incoloy. There were a set-on fittings (also incoloy) welded on the main pipe (incoloy). The welding was (1) root run is Inconel 82 (GTAW) & (2) filler is Incoweld A (SMAW). This manifold has been operating for some 20 years and at around 800 degC and some 30-40 bar. Recently it was found that there was a tranverse crack (also caused a leak) on the weld of one of these set-on fittings. Other fittings with this kind of weld are still working perfect. Wonder if the experts here have ever come across with this kind of weld failure and could enlighten me the cause of this failure. Thanks alot.
