6011 VS 6011... Hobart VS Lincoln Comparison (Video)

Hey y'all!!This is a little test that I put together here recently, I'd known since I first "really" started welding that different brands of electrodes were no doubt different... Ive seen more difference in 6013 electrodes from different brands than I've seen difference from running 6013 to 7014 before, for example.I thought it'd be cool to mess around with, so I bought a box of Lincoln 6011 and another unopened box of Hobart 6011 and did a little redneck testing.I honestly thought they'd be more similar, there was a HUGE difference when running them side-by-side. The Lincoln didnt run nearly as smoothly as the Hobart, but the Hobart produced more "fluid" slag over the puddle, and MUCH more of it. Some things were close, like the ease of removing slag from the finished weld, and some things were different, like the strength. There was a much bigger difference there that I ever thought there would be. I'd always assumed "6011 is 6011... It might run a little differently, but it should be just as strong as any other 6011".Little did I know. lol.Anyway, the video shows more. Reply:Interesting demonstration/comparison, I have been running Hobart 1/8" 6011 lately on DCEP at about 130-135 amps on 1/4" material. But I'm NOT about to try beating it apart.Maybe on your next video like this you could do different amp ratings, too. I feel the higher amps like this will get better penetration and be harder to beat apart. Same rods, different amperage, and different brands and various amperages.

Reply:The real difference for me is when I'm welding out of position. Lincoln Excalibur 7018 1/8 vs. Hobart 7018 1/8. Same heat setting, same welder (Miller XMT 350) running multi pass straight up, there is no comparison. Lincoln has a better, more consistent running rod. I've used both in the same day. (I ran out of Excalibur) I was cursing out Hobart for most of the afternoon because of their junk rod. I run through a fair amount of 7018 1/8, and I'm of the opinion that Lincoln nailed this one. Reply:I just purchased 50lbs of Thermadyne Firepower 6011.After purchase I noticed that it's "encho de Mehico" I try not to do that.To add to the comparisons, I'll try to file a report after it's run.

Reply:What Lincoln 6011?  There are Lincoln Fleetweld 180 6011s, Lincoln Fleetweld 35 6011s, and Lincoln Fleetweld 35ls 6011s.  In order of preference I like 35ls, 35, then 180.The Fleetweld 180 is designed to run with the lower OCV of the crackerboxes.
