Several years ago I got a good deal on some aluminum tubing.  I've used a little of it, but I'm kinda tired of looking at the remaining pile.  I need some suggestions on fairly simple projects I could use it for.  I'd like to be able to complete the project in an evening or even a full day.  I don't want to drag it out much farther than that as I have enough long term projects already.  I'd like to build something I can use myself or that I could sell without a liability headache.  The only thing I can think of is a man basket for my forklift or skid loader.  That would be for me.  It might come in handy for trimming trees, painting the house, or some similar use.The material is aluminum.  It is 1.125" x 1.125" square tubing with .125" wall.  I've got 24 pieces that are 8 ft long.Lets hear some ideas...I'd also be open to selling the material to anybody nearby that could use it.  I just don't want to store it anymore or scrap it.My name's not Jim....
Reply:Man basket is quite a liability IMO, ESPECIALLY on a skidsteer.You didn't build that.'85 Miller AEAD-200LE

Reply:There are all kinds of motorcycle applications for that, whether you make top trunk or saddlebag mounts, light mounts for the enduro guys, etc.  There are still some liability issues, but the aftermarket gets around that by severly under rating their mounts.Harbor Freight Inverter 130 amp DC stick/tig (sold, really!)Lincoln Square Wave Tig 175 AC/DC stick/Tig
Reply:Perhaps the easiest way to consume that pile of aluminum tube is to chop it into random lengths and make wind chimes.  No welding, just drill and thread some cord.  No liability!Don't laugh!   I know an old fella in northern NH that makes wind chimes from broken ski poles, pays the property taxes on his house with the proceeds! Polish the tubes and sell them at an autumn craft fair. People pay good money for stuff like that and with the Christmas shopping season rapidly approaching they will be a hot item.  The fact that your tube is all square would make for some very unique wind chimes!- MondoMember, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.

Reply:You can make a rack to store itself.  Just kidding.  Shelving for your shop (though the material is kinda spendy for that).  -AaronJet 17.5" Drill Press1942 South Bend 16x84 Lathe1980s Miller 320A / BP --- 2013 Power Mig 2562012 Jet 7x12 Horizontal BandsawVictor O/A Setup

Reply:More welder carts!I as well could come up with all kinds of personal projects I could use it for but in the same boat as having to much going on and couldn't use ANOTHER project right now.First that comes to mind has already been mentioned. Decks/racks/shelves for boat, trailer, truck, 4 wheeler, etc.Second things that come to mind are wagons, wheel borrows, carts, trailers.Tire racks/shelves in the shop.Artother stuff. lolClimbing stick for bow hunters, but the liability issue. http://www.basspro.com/Sniper-Treest...f-00003f72d90bDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Trash can racks, with or without wheels.Wheeled ones to take out the trash, un-wheeled ones for around the house to keep dogs from tipping the cans over.  If you weld aluminum, you could dispense with having to make curved pieces by welding straight ones (miters, etc.).
