Reply:Depending on budget you could go with a used  MILLER 180 SD or a 200 syncro with FOOT PEDAL. This can also be used for stick too. You will need 220 volt. I got the 180 and it is a basic tig set up. Turn on, push pedal, weld. Got mine for $800.00 with torch, cables, pedal, and  regulator. I think it's a perfect machine. You could also look at the inverters too like the Diversion but more money and no stick option. How much you wanna spend ?
Reply:No real budget as of right now, just want a general idea. Aluminum and steel

Reply:You'll need a 50amp or larger 240v breaker with a transformer machine, and only a 30 or 40 amp breaker with an inverter.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Put in a 100 amp subpanel in your workspace.  You won't be limited to an inverter type TIG cause you'll have all the juice you need.  Then pick up a Syncro 250 used and you're done.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:Well, if budget is no concern...Install a 100A service to feed the welder.I'd think a Dynasty 700 would be a good, do it all, tig welder.  Make sure you go water cooled. This is the type response the original question warrants.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:A welder itself is an answer to a specific question. That specific question is "WHAT do you want to weld?"."Put in a 100 amp subpanel in your workspace. You won't be limited to an inverter type TIG cause you'll have all the juice you need. Then pick up a Syncro 250 used and you're done. "That's actually a perfectly good idea. Get the subpanel first. Electrical power is the foundation of a well-equipped shop.

Reply:Heres my setup, I run it off a Hobart Stickmate, but Id imagine almost any DC negative welder would do. Hope this helps [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPKstOZSZug[/ame][Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:So im confused now. If you have an arc welder you can do what you did? I wonder the cost minus the bottle. Any idea!
Reply:I think my dry rig was about $125 through Airgas and then about $20 for the adapter that hooks to the machine that allows the gas to flow through. Thats the set up I had with my Lincoln Ranger 10000.

Reply:If you go used kind of obselete industrial a single phase machine with water and gas solenoids and at least after flow of the gas.  A water cooled torch and a drain or pail for the total loss water.A 50 amp 230 volt single phase plug should suffice though it will be a lot less than it says on the information tag on the machine.  A foot pedal which plugs into the machine.  It won't have penetrate/clean on ac or pulse but will suffice to practice with.   I think pulse on pulse and triangle shaped waves are cutting edege now but likely more will probably be maketed in five years.  Might be wrong but the advances are more in the ac tig than the dc.You probably should get some copper blocks bars etc to keep your aluminum pieces from collapsing.I am not so sure the invrter machines use less electricity when turned up all the way near their max.You already have some suggestions of smaller new stuff.Fran
