I have a MM 252 single drive rolls I tried to run .045" S S wire thru it with very little luck , I wonder if I would need a double drive roller set up tell me what you all think. it would drag in the liner tension adjusted gradually still no good.
Reply:We have a Miller S-52 feeder with just the standard top & bottom roll setup and run sst wire with it all day. Run .035 most of the time and sometimes .045 f/c sst wire. Might check the diameter of your liner. We had to put a .035-.045 in ours because the standard for that gun was .030-.035. Could you provide a little more information, what was it doing at the drive roll end. Were the rolls slipping or wire bird nesting? When you say single drive roll I'm assuming you have a top and bottom roll that both have grooves for the wire? We have an old Lincoln that just has a lower drive roll and a ball bearing on the top. I highly doubt you need a dual drive setup like the Miller 70 series which takes a total of 4 rolls.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
Reply:I second the liner. I have a 210 Ironman with the single driver and ball bearing combo. I switched to a .045 liner and all is well. One thing, make sure your felt wiper pad before the driver isn't too tight, mine was and you could tell the wire was slipping. hope that works for ya.TOOLS AND TOYSSMAW Mid States Inc. Reply:Is there too much tension on the roll, try backing off on the "brake". Is this a larger roll than the .045 f/c wire you usually run?Our Lincoln Wirematic would just spin the roll and not feed any wire. Found out the roll brake had got too tight.TOO MANY TOOLS & NO MORE SPACE
