Ring Roller BuildPlease note some of the photos are in various stages of mock upI have wanted to build one for years and finally did it. I based it on the pictures found at the following thread: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ht=ring+rollerPost # 6Works well but needs some fine tuning. I may have grooves cut in the 2 slave rollers (lower ones) to help track round bar.Pretty basic build. The frame is 2” square tubing ¼ wall. The two lower rollers are 2” cold rolled with a 5/8” hole for the shafts. The C Channel base was a drop from a fabrication shop I get my steel from. The hub for the handle is from Tractor Supply: http://www.tractorsupply.com/w-serie...n-bore-1170484The first project I will post when completed it is a type of marble roller coaster similar to the following:http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...ight=drag+raceThe second project is a patio table with spider web design. Reply:1 thinng is for sure that 250 wall should hold up to what ever you throw at it.
Reply:Yes .250 wall is thick!  It was a left over from a previous project.I will finish up all the welds. I may redue the bottom plate and put in tighter tolerence for the  guides. I rolled more than a few feet this weekend and I was pleased.Once done i will post more pictures.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Very nice Dave! Will you get rollers for round tubing?More pics please Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
Reply:maybe even a video.......great work...
Reply:Nice build.  Il like the design.Might have to figures ways to prevent twisting of the top roller/tubing/shaft as you challenge it more. Check with a dial indicator.
Reply:nice build! Question:Can you buy the dies somewhere? I could probably make my own but i noticed the upper one is knurled. Is this necessary for an application like this? Seems like it would help but i'm not sure if it would be worth it or not because it could possibly rough up the material needed to be rolled?....Thanks,Also, what kind of car are you working on?...Last edited by tig_21; 11-27-2012 at 01:16 PM.Miller Dynasty 200Millermatic 211Instagram?.... find me @ WELD_MEDIC
Reply:I managed to get a local machinery company to knock up a few dies for me for cash, did it Saturday morning when the boss was out, Saved me a few notes
Reply:tapwelderI rolled some scrap circles but pitched them before I took pictures they did have a slight twist. At this point that is more me than the bender. tig_21I'm not sure where to get the dies. I got mine from an Amish man. They do mark up the metal. The amish man has the best ring roller I have ever seen someday I will take pictures. He makes miles of wheels and rings a year. The car is a 70 Skylark kind of a GS clone.dubl_tI'm going to contact swaggoffroad about tubing dies.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:not to interupt but I just bought a ton of dies from swagg and cant wait to get started using them just got a bunch of other things going on 1st, nice build hope it works well for you.
Reply:Thanks Ron By chance what size is the hole for the the shaft to hold the die? Mine is 5/8 and I might change it before everything is welded up to match swaggsDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:I have not even taken them out of the bx yet I ordered over the weekend and they arrived on Monday morning, I can say that it would be the same shaft size as the HF as that is what I bought them to work with.

Reply:If the question was for me, i was able to pick and choose what I wanted from Swagg along with a couple of new axles for the HF roller.  I also bought their wing kit and kit for an electric pipe threading set up.  You would need to look at Swagg's web site as to how they have adapted eveything.
Reply:Update I rolled 2"x1/2 aluminum flat stock today. I forget how long it was but something like 5 feet or so. It took a long time but it rolled perfect. I was afraid I was going to get the corkscrew look but that did not occur.  The aluminum kept wanting to track off the rollers. I'm going to put bearings and bigger rollers on the slave rollers. I may add guides (not sure what to call them) to have flat stock track better I also have to roll a wheel for me to turn the drive wheel. Attached ImagesDave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Nice Dave, very nice.I'm guessing you just feed the material by hand, or are you gonna motorize it at some point?Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
Reply:I might motorize. There is a learning curve to rolling material. once I roll a wheel and change a few things I will see if it needs a motor.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:Marvelous Job Well Done.

Reply:Thanks a1998z3I was thinking about something like that. I Have a 1/2" drill with enough torque to break your arms but mounting it might be tricky. this looks like an easy mount.Dave ReberWadsworth Ohio
Reply:No problem...i just want to see how it comes out..may be my next project.
